Default Aftermarket intake

Any suggestions on an aftermarket intake that does not need a tune?, or is an intake without a tune just a waste of money. Thanks!

Jimh64 - Any suggestions on an aftermarket intake that does not need a tune?, or is an intake without a tune just a waste of money.
Casual spelunking ( Google [ ford 5.0 coyote aftermarket intake manifold ] ) results show that the aftermarket intake manifolds are geared towards mid-to-high range RPM performance. So, unless your intention is racing the $900+- co$t of the manifold and $500+- co$t of a tune (preferably dyno') it would be "just a waste of money".

If your referring to the air intake (a.k.a. CAI)...

OEM, air intake system .....
.
  • already CAI.
    • air intake from LH (driver) wheel well behind the inner fender shield.
    • air box has a lid. MEANING: It's not a HAI (HotAirIntake) allowing heated engine bay air.
    • is made-of plastic. MEANING: Less heat-soak.
    • IAT reading is nearly same as an aftermarket.
    .
  • OEM, Motorcraft air filters ...
    • meets|exceeds engine air intake CFM requirements. *UNLESS über engine modifications are done. e.g. cylinder head and/or cams.
    • good for 30,000+ miles. *Depending upon conditions.
    • ABSOLUTELY NO possibility of MAF sensor oil contamination.
    • dispose and replace maintenance.
    .
  • After-Market ...
    • any increase in air flow comes at the expense of filtration.
    • co$t of cleaning supplies and time involved.
    • (possibility of even minor) MAF sensor oil contamination. *Which reduces performance and MPG.
    • there are NO performance and/or MPG gains.
.
Regarding aftermarket air intake systems ...

Do it for the increased growl.

Do it for the engine bay cosmetics.

Do it for ANY other reason and you're wasting your $$$$$ and would be more betterer served to invest in a tuner.

an aftermarket intake without a tune and exhaust will not help performance.

It does make the truck sound slightly cooler though, in my opinion. and anyone who pops your hood will have a brief moment of “oh that’s cool”

So you’re paying for sound. I had one on my 2.7 and also on a 5.0 no tune

Search for your specific engine and year. I
personally prefer a dry filter over the oiled filter. I heard many years back that the dry ones have less issues/maintenance over time.
