Well anyway, apparently there is a 1 year warranty on the part, which is good, but the bad news was (of course) 3 different people drove the truck today and noone could feel it. They also didnt mention anything about the level, and they didnt say anything last year either. If its gonna take a crap again, better be before the middle of August, because thats when my year is up.

Agreed. Had mine replaced a few years ago. It's poor design by the manufacturer. Lots of problems with trucks that are stock and those that have leveled trucks.

Default 2011 Screw FX4

After reading 215 pages of this thread and having the same problem with the clunk in the EPAS and slight looseness in the steering wheel I am not sure what decision to make.

Pay 1800$ CAD for a new rack and have the problem come again after a while or keep replacing the left inner tie rod since the EPAS keeps killing it and the play keeps chopping my tires.
I have done research and the EPAS for my truck is the motorcraft STE-121 as I have a 157in wheel base and max trailer tow. I am not sure if it was even updated. What do you guys think I should do?

I had a new EPAS installed a little over a year ago on my 2011. We just noticed my BKG KO2 tires are starting to chop on the outside a bit. It's going in Monday to check alignment. Maybe it's tie rod ends on mine that's causing the chopping....

Just realized this is a very old thread but I'll throw this out there anyway - The intermediate steering shaft was a notorius issue on the Chevy trucks { had to have one replaced on my old silverado} , but I am not sure if this is a common problem with the Fords, but from what was described, sounds exactly like what I felt through the steering wheel on the chevy. Felt like a rattling, or something lose in the steering shaft, which transmitted the vibrations up into the steering wheel.

Well I've had 4 F-150's over the years...an '05 Lariat, '09 Platinum, '13 Platinum and now a '16 King Ranch. The '09 Platinum definitely had this issue with a loose feeling in the steering just going down the road and hitting small but sharp bumps. Irritated me so much I got rid of the '09. After a couple of years I bought the '13 Plat and all was fine with the steering. Now I have a new (just at 1K miles) 2016 King Ranch and am dismayed to feel the same 'loose steering" condition as my '09. I'm going to have a friend help me look at all the steering linkage to be sure it is the steering rack assembly then take it in. Why hasn't Ford redesigned this part yet, there are too many owners with issues to ignore and boy am I disappointed in a brand new $63K truck having this issue. IIRC, even when the new racks were installed some still felt the looseness....

My truck makes this exact noise. Is this the EPAS?

Ford has changed the desgin completely. The 09 had hydraulic steering. The 13 Likely unless it was a 6.2L had EPAS steering and the 16 has EPAS steering.

Might be because the 16 is lighter than the 13?

Other than wind noise it sounds like you might have broke your IWE's when you installed your level.

Did you remove the CV's or CV nut on the end of the axle to install your level?

The steering pop bump sound is just a hollow bump and feel in the steering wheel while driving.
