hey guys another pissed off ford customer here. I bought a 2012 f150 FX4 and it started doing the steering jittery thing around 20k (kilometres) so I took it in and the dealer replaced the steering rack (allegedly). Fast forward to 80k and the thing started doing the same thing. Had the maintenance package on the truck and so every time it went in for a service since I noticed it happening again I tell them to look into it. I get the same response every time "our people can't replicate the problem, it's fine" My warranty is now almost up and i'm stuck with a truck with a known problem in the steering system that ford can't or won't fix. The issue is the same as many here have stated except mine does is worse when its cold out, like -10 celsius or colder. Theres a jittery/bumpy sensation coming through the steering column over stutter bumps such as washboard or crappy roads. It mostly goes away when the steering wheel is turned or the weather is warmer??? I noticed some of you say its worse when it's hot so thats the exact opposite of me??? Usually when things heat up they expand and tighten everything up so it's kinda weird that you guys are having the same problem as me but on the opposite temps???

So I had the rack replaced about 10 months ago, and have put less than 10k miles on since. I paid around $1400 for it, since I was out of warranty. Starting to do it again. Anyone who had to pay for this have issues again? I have to call the dealer this week and see what they will do (or not do). Im not paying $1400 again for this. Ill trade it in on something else.

Are you running a level?

Yeah. It was on it when I bought it. They'll probably use that as a reason...

Because it is the reason. All my knocking and banging went away when I went from a level to a 4" lift.

Sure about that?
I have been following this thread for years now. I have a 2012 SCAB 5.0. I installed the level kit at 500 miles after buying truck new. Have 35000 miles now with no knock at all or any loose play coming from my EPAS.

I am sure of it. No other changes were made 2" level went in popping and loose sounds happened. 2" level comes out 4" real lift goes in and truck goes back to normal.

Not all trucks will be the same we know that but on my truck and many others the level was the reason for noisy steering rack.

That doesn't prove anything.

Many people have had no issues with a level, and a lot of people have the problem without a level.

Does a level increase the likelihood of having the issue? possibly, but it's not the root cause.

The root cause is a poorly designed, developed, and manufactured steering rack.
