We all already KNOW what the problem is!!

Ford spec'd a bad supplier for the steering rack and it has a massive amount of play in it.

How about you do something more than referring us to go to dealers and instead start a process to make ford recall the bad racks and replace them before an accident happens and they get sued. Wouldn't want Ford to end up like GM with the known bad ignition switches they did nothing about.

Thanks for the input, lewis26. I'll be sure to document it for review. The best way to get this concern proper attention is to have it brought to dealers and to the attention of representatives like myself, who document both the concerns and repairs in our system and, when necessary, escalate. The basic, very first step in all of this is to have the dealer diagnose; we're unable to assist further unless this happens. After that, I do my job here on the forum: to get customers assistance by my highest point of contact, the regional customer service manager.

Brittany, I respect your response, but it's less than helpful. As this thread proves, many people have been turned away from the dealer in "could not recreate situations." The dealers are not escalating any issues.

Additionally, My truck, like many others here, is out of warranty. I am not going to spend money for the dealer to diagnose a problem that is already. Is ford going to pay to diagnose the issue? No. So telling everyone to go to the dealer is pointless and less than helpful.

How about printing every page of this thread and dropping the entire ream of paper required on the desk of someone who can do something about the POS steering rack that was chosen as supplied part?

Multiple YEARS of trucks with this issue, with racks going out in less than 25,35, or 50k miles is ridiculous, and proves that this is not an isolated incident. This is a design issue, and the part obviously is defective.

Ito , went and jumped through hoops! Truck went in to dealer , they replaced the upper steering shaft. Knowing that it would not fix the problem , cost me 660$ , the tech told me they were dealing with 7 f150's with the same problem. So after dealing with a totally rude customer service manger at Ford of Canada , who told me to "suck it up buttercup" I payed the 1500$ to get a new steering rack. And they charged me also for the wheel alinement , so after many years of owning fords . Never again , time to dump this one . Ford should step up and deal with this issue , not telling people on this thread to go to there dealers and then totally screw you around . My truck has 62000 km on it . Oh by the way the new rack is starting to loosen off , after 6000k's , at least the part is warranted , but I'll probably have to pay the labour . Nice customer service , Ford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ford killed lots of people in the Windstars with the rear axles splitting in half. It took a lot of people dying to have a recall over 8 years after they were built.

Not going to happen with these trucks, we are having the same problem with the vacuum pumps in the Eb.

Nobody has died yet.

As of now they believe the noises are coming from the brackets that mount my aftermarket bumper to the frame. I bought some baler belt and have isolated all metal on metal contact. Drove it up the street with no noises. It will be a while before I take it out of the garage again but time will tell if this was the true source of my noises. I hope the tech is right.

I am surprised they didn't blame it on your level kit or wheels/ tires. Good luck with the dealer.

I hope and pray my new steering rack doesn't loosen off again over time!! $1400 that I spent too weeks ago is too much to endure again.......and I think this new OEM rack only has a two year warranty on it. I can't believe with reading everyone's troubles on here, that Ford never recognized the ongoing issue with this's racks, and looked after those owners who needed them replaced.
