100% stock still had the knock. It's the early steering racks that are the issue. New rack, 08/2014, no more pop or rattle. It's totally the Electronic rack.

2. Nexteer makes junk parts that ford continues to put in their trucks and the issue shows up in certain parts in a handful of vehicles.

If there are people here with completely stock front end trucks (Meaning no mods like level or suspension lift) and they are still having the EPAS pop/ knock then it is 100% a ford problem that is directly related to the part they are using.

Just some thoughts. My truck still has a slight pop occasionally but not nearly as bad as it was with the original EPAS.
My truck was stock and had less than 1000 miles on it when it went bad.

Everyone that has this problem needs to file a complaint with NHTSA . I filed one and the more the better . My trucks completley stock and have had 3 racks and still have the problem . According to Ford it is a desirable characteristic of the vehicle hahaha

I thought I remember you saying you got rid of your last f 150 somewhere in this post.. Did you happen to buy a newer truck? And if so, have you done any mods to it or have you experienced the defective rack in it?

Nope you are mistaken, this is the only f150 I have ever owned.
I bought this truck in April of 2013 and have had it ever since.

I just bought this 2011 f150 used and i now have the hollow knocking in the steering wheel. Do you think this would be covered under power train warranty?

Hi Luellen,

Congrats on the new truck! Your dealership will be in the best position to make a warranty determination. How many miles are on your truck?

The truck just hit 40,000. I just got it out of the shop due Popping noise in the transmission. (they replaced the drive shaft). I can slightly feel it in the steering wheel. Its 30 degrees here and every one is saying it get worst when its hot out side. I was trying to be proactive and make them pay for it LOL

Thanks for following up, Luellen! If you want to have your dealer look at this again once the weather warms up, let me know and I'll do what I can to help.
