Bit of an update. Had the truck into the dealer yesterday, dropped the truck off before appointment time at 12:30 and the service department spent the latter part of the afternoon aligning the front end. End result at closing time was the truck's steering is much improved, but steering wheel was about a half inch off to the right, lol. They'd run out of time for the day and service tech had an appointment after work, so have to take it back to have the alignment redone.
Good news is the steering problem is an alignment issue! This alignment issue comes right out of the Ford factory. I picked the truck up new and it's steered the same since day one. Seen nothing but highway since I got it and had never even hit a significant bump or hole.
The dealership was very accommodating, giving me a vehicle to drive while they worked on the truck, and reimbursed me for my fuel cost to drive it there, which is 2 hours away from where I live.
I asked for and was given another new XLT of the same year, and it drove just like my truck before the wheel alignment, which is to say no on center and wanting to go left or right with the slightest road irregularity that would deflect the steering.....although not as severely as my vehicle.
After bringing my alignment into spec, it now steers like a totally different vehicle, and had it come out of the Ford factory with the wheels aligned the way they are now, I would have considered the steering acceptable for a 4x4 from day one.
Had the loaner vehicle I was handed steered well, I would have assumed my vehicle was a one off problem or that something had happened between the Ford plant during transport to the dealer, but that was not the case here.

Bottom line on this as it appears to me, is my dealer,(Jacobson Ford in Salmon Arm, BC) who has done everything they can to provide a great customer service experience to a new buyer, is paying the price for quality control issues that are Ford's responsibility.
When my current 4 year lease is up, and I go to lease my 2019 F150 from the same dealer, I'll be test driving lots of vehicles rather than just assuming they come from the Ford factory with everything the way it should be. Lesson learned
I'll post an end result when I get the alignment redone this coming week.

Thanks for sending this update along, upnorth250. I received and responded to your recent private message as well; did you receive it? I'm glad to hear that the steering issue was taken care of with your local dealership and am looking forward to your next update!

As I mentioned privately, I can look into this further with some more information. With your best daytime contact number, I can access your records and document your dealer feedback. Please send that information along so I can get started.

Have a great day!

Brittany

Quick update here, ended up taking the truck into a dealer close to my work and dropping it off for the day.
A big thanks to service advisor Sarah Harbus, even bigger thanks to service manager Ken Hiles, and biggest thanks of all to alignment tech Wayne at Kelowna Lincoln Ford as my new truck now steers like a new truck after having a very expert alignment done at the dealership.

Im also getting a noise from the rear end if I backup and the axle goes over a larger incline on one side more than the other, its not the "click" everyone is hearing when going from drive to reverse, its more of a "pop".

Ok so here i am yet again .. Ive posted a few times on this issue, 2012 Ford F150 xlt supercrew ecoboost . I am now on my 3rd rack on the truck and maybe only has 3k miles on it and guess what.. i can slowly feel the knock /pop coming back slightly AGAIN while holding the bottom of the steering wheel going over a series of small bumps . im only willing to bet that a few thousand more miles and the knock/pop will be back in full force again . This truck has been nothing but a nuisance for me . Not to mention when im in stop and go traffic the transmission bangs into gear occasionally . My first purchase of a new truck and ive had nothing but trips back and forth to the dealer

My 2013 SCREW FX4 4X4 5.0 has this going on with it now, at 4XXX miles. It only seems to really happen for me at temperatures above 80F. I feel chatter through the steering wheel when I hit tiny imperfections on the road surface, larger bumps and ruts, and my truck handles fine.

Looks like everyone's getting new steering gears. I was on the phone with the dealer the other day and they said they've never heard of this issue. So I'm not looking forward to going in and trying to explain this to them.

First new truck I've ever owned and I've been to dealer twice, counting this time, in less than 5000 miles.

Hi gang,

Keep in mind that I'm here to do what I can to help. If you've already been to the dealer for diagnosis, send me a PM and I'll get to work on some options to assist. In your message, please include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership.

Mark,
I feel your pain completely.. I have had my rack replaced once and although the knock/ pop is pretty much still gone.. I have definitely felt it occasionally but not to the extent where it was with the stock rack. My fear is exactly the same is yours (That is will come back completely in another couple thousand miles).
I also have the rough shifts, mostly when the truck is started up cold and driven away while cold. I have had it in the dealer about 3 times telling them about the rough shifts but all they do is reflash the tranny. Of course they want a replication of the issue before trying to diagnose it but the problem is it’s hit and miss. Anyways…. This truck will probably be sold traded in for something else. Not sure what yet.

So just an update from my last post 3 days ago, within that time i have noticed the knock /rattle slightly at temperatures 60-80 (just like before) It was 90 degrees in Boston today and the knock/rattle was back in full force just like on my previous steering rack before i had it replaced ! I do not understand why Ford does not see this trend going on here and switch the type of rack , because i assume they are only gonna replace it with the same thing and have the same issue happen again ! Really running out of patience now
