Hey everyone. I have this steering wheel popping feeling like something is loose when i go over rough terrain or bumps in the road. Is happens even when the steering wheel is straight (this is how i feel it most of the time as i am driving straight). The easiest way to describe it is like the gmt-800 body style pickups that make that clunking feeling in the wheel when you turn only this is without turning the wheel. I have not brought it into the dealer yet. Just wanted to see if this was considered normal? It's starting to annoy me. Thanks all!

 

i got the same problem but have not gone to the dealership since i am waiting to hit 5000 miles for my first oil change but i dont think is normal

 

Have you done anything at all to the front suspension, like a level kit?

 

Do you use the steering wheel as leverage (pull on it) when you get in the truck?

 

I have not done anything to the truck. I don't pull on the wheel to get into it either....

 

yea i got the same thing feels like a rim is loose, ive leveled the front of the truck, i havent gone to the dealership yet will prolly do soon tho

 

Have nit done a thing to my front end here except installing 22" wheels

I have the same feeling on my 2011 FX4. I've got 6,000 miles on it. I mainly notice it over small quick bumps, especially when going down a highway with rough pavement joints. If I pull the wheel just barely in either direction the slight rattle in the steering wheel stops. Anyone have any ideas. I'm not very confident that the dealer will be able to diagnose this.

I do have a 1.5" level kit, but have double checked everything. It almost feels like a bad sway bar end link. I called Autospring and they said about every issue they've heard of relating to a rattle in the steering wheel is from a bad or loose end link. Does anyone know of any aftermarket sway bar end links for these trucks? I haven't had any luck finding any.

 

Same thing. 2011 screw, 4x4, 3.55. No mods on the suspension at all.

Only when straight. When there is no 'load" on the steering linkage. Quick little bumps and I feel a slight knock in the steering wheel. These things have electric power steering so I don't have a clue what it could be.

It drives me nuts though. Something else I THINK I am noticing is, it seems to get worse the longer I drive. Meaning, I don't feel it as much on short drives. At least, it seems like it is acting like that now.

If I had to guess, I would guess it is something to do with this electronic powers steerling doing something even when we are going dead straight.

I plan on asking the dealer about it at my first oil change ( @2600 miles right now) but, if anybody else gets more info I would love to hear it.

Forgot to add, I tried tilting the steering wheel at different angles and also telescoping it in and out. Still does it no matter where the steering wheel is.

I agree with KC though, I am not confident at all a dealer could diagnose. It would be the old, "we couldnt duplicate the problem".
