static shock
Anyone have any issues when closing their truck doors. Recently i notice i get a static type of shock when i shut my truck off and close the door. Don't know if this could be a ground issue or not?!
I have not done anything to the electrical and have 11,000km.

Its due to the dry air and cold this time of year. It is only static. Touch a key to the truck door or something metal before closing the door to discharge the static rather than taking a zap!!!

I was told that there is so much power in the F150, that no human driver can ever access all of it. So it is just free energy to whom ever touches the truck first!!!

The first time I got leather seats on a vehicle 12 years ago, I realized this got rid of the static shock I got everytime I got out of the vehicle. All vehicles have been leather since then and I have not gotten a shock - including in my FX4.

This is not solely a F150 problem, any car will do it. canoetrpr, i have never noticed the leather vs. cloth difference in shock, but I have never gotten shocked in my f150 with leather seats so u could be on to something there!

I made the connection some time ago when I purchased a Honda Accord with leather seats.
All it is I think is the fact that your clothes rub on the cloth seat material and build up a charge which you discharge when you touch a meta part of the car.
With leather, there is little friction between your butt and the seat so not enough charge builds up.

It is also why you do not fill you gas can while it sits on your plastic bedliner.
OR, go back into your cab while your tank it filling. Make sure you ground yourself before touching the fuel nossle. This is the number one cause of fueling fires.
Next time you are filling your tank, instead of using your cell phone, READ to static electricity placards on the pump, it tells all about it!
