Anyone Else Not Happy With the Sony Sound System?
I have the Sony sound system that comes with MyFordTouch f150s. I think it's 770watts with 8 speakers and a small sub under the rear seat. Anyway, I'm less than impressed with it. The bass is ok, but it just isn't loud. I'm on max volume 90% of the time. It seems like once you get to 60% volume, it doesn't make it any louder, it just gives you a bit more bass. My '07 Mustang had the 6 speaker Shaker500, and it blew this away. Yes, a Mutang is alot smaller inside, but I still can't undertsand the "premium" sound system being so quiet.
So now I'm looking to add speakers, and i need advice! Right now, a new shallow-mount subwoofer is a given. But i need to make some speaker mods too. So should i replace the door speakers and amp them, or just add 2 6x8/6x9s under the rear seats with the sub? I'm trying to keep from spending too much, so the second option sounds more appealing to me.
Also, what additional components would be needed (crossovers, adapters for the factory h.u., etc.)
Thanks for the help guys!

It's OK. Not as good as the audiophile system in the 2004-2008 trucks. It's not terrible enough for me to rip it out and go aftermarket but not good enough for me to be totally fine with it. I found that the 2013 MFT/Sony system went way louder than the 09-12 system. I also found that past half volume the bass just tapers off and doesn't really get any louder.

Ya the thought of ripping everything out and replacing it makes my stomach hurt lol. But i can't live with it either, I drive with my windows down a lot and it's actually hard to hear the music. But even windows up, it's weak.
That's why I'm hoping adding two 6x9s with a new sub will get me to a reasonable sound level.

The Sony sound is fine to me. Way cleaner than the regular system used. I don't crank it up to terribly much because it is a little too loud at a certain point. Maybe I have good ears? lol
Kind of odd. I can go down the highway at 60 MPH with windows down and can hear mine fine at about 60% volume. Its plenty loud to me.
But like you, I had a Mustang with the the Shaker in it and that thing was sweet.

I plan on switching out the stock speakers and installing an amp at some point. I'm not an audiophile, but I appreciate good sound. Not the best factory system I've heard, but certainly not the worst.

I have a 2013 STX and I wish I had a better sound system now. I thought I had a good one, but then I got into my mom's 2010 Z71 Tahoe, a 2012 Lincoln MKX and a 2013 Chrysler 300 and all of those made mine sound like ****. The 300 had a REALLY good sound system for being a rental car!
I would like to upgrade my door speakers, any suggestions on which brand is good?

I've spent plenty of time around heavy machines and firearms, but my Sony system hurts my ears at 7-8 bars on the indicator. To me, 5 is plenty loud, and 2-3 is where I have it with the wife in the truck with me.
I liked being able to have a nice quiet conversation with her at 75mph on the interstate between Houston and El Campo. This was our first "day trip" in the truck, and we were very pleased with the low noise in the cabin.

See to me, at 40 with the windows down it's hard to hear. even at max-vol.
IMO, if the stereo is on max volume you shouldn't be able to have a conversation without having to yell to the person next to you. But that's not the case here.
Anyway, here in late July Austin has the Texas Heatwave Autoshow, and Custom Sounds is always a big sponsor. They have a whole building and sell audio stuff for really cheap, so I'm hoping to pick up some audio stuff then. Gotta do a bit more research on what to get, but I'll update when something happens.

reason why i didnt even opt for the sony system when buying my truck bc i knew it would be subpar anyway. I have since upgraded the stock speakers to a component 6.5" system amped and dual 8" woofers ported under the rear seat. Perfect now. Nice full sound throughout the volume range.
