Snails Inside My Engine Bay?? WTF!?
Ok so I opened up my hood to do some work tonight and found some dead snails and some other weird stuff on top of my engine. WTF! I pride my engine being clean and my truck is pretty new. Why do I have like 5 dead snails on top of the engine? Could this be a rodent issue?

Do you park it outside? Do you have opossums around there? Could be that, 'cus those things love snails...
I remember one time several years ago when my late mom saw a twig sticking out from her backyard bbq. So she grabbed at it to toss it in the trash at which point the "twig" became what was actually an opossum tail. Later, inside of that bbq was covered with snail shells...

Damnit! Yea, I park in my driveway outside. There are animals around our area but we are a pretty heavy populated subdivision so not the biggest amount of sightings. So basically what you're telling me is a damn opossum climbed up into my engine for a nice warm area to eat there snails.
What can I do to prevent this from happening again lol. Also, what can I use to clean the engine? Can I just hose it down or would it be bad to get it that wet.

Opossums are nocturnal, so seldom seen 'cept with headlights when crossing streets at night. Why not vacuum out those snail bits, then flush with diluted Simple Green and cool water. Shouldn't hurt anything. If your neighborhood has those critters, maybe they'll visit somewhere else. I'll defer to expert opinion on deterrents...

Possum, squirrel, mice, take your pic, get a cat or put poison around your truck. They will gnaw on your wiring next and that gets expensive.

Still suggest simply vacuuming out those snail shell parts, then flushing gently with mild cleaning solution and water which won't harm engine surfaces. Those shells are calcium carbonate plus most of the living snail had been eaten. This site says the "slime" left behind is simply mucus for lubrication (interesting that snails have both male and female organs ): Snail Anaomy
Edited to also suggest hang a moth cake after engine bay is clean and dry as a deterrent to add'l nighttime opossum visits...
