Anyone have an RV style truck camper such as a Lance or six pack in their shortbed (5.5 or 6.5 ft.) 2010 or newer supercrew? With or without heavy duty payload option? I am researching the possibilities. Seems a pop up camper is within payload range, but I have yet to find a hard sided camper that won't overload the vehicle once you put the family, gear and water in to the equation.

Likely gonna need the 6.5 bed. I doubt they make one for a 5.5. Also, i'd recomend putting on air bags to keep the rear end up level. Payload capacity you'll be fine, especially with bags. not like your gonna have people in it while driving cause its illegal.

There are options for the 5.5 bed, you just have to do a lot of research. I have most of my links saved at home, but here is two from memory that will work in a 5.5 bed.

I have been looking for a SCREW camper as well, but it is hard to find one cheap to fit a SCREW since they are so new (less then 10 years old).

Also, check out Palimino Brand. They have truck campers that collapse and are lighter. I will need something like one of these (extra light weight) because I am already towing a 5000 lb boat. You can do it in an f150, heck they make campers for Rangers, S10's, Dakota's Etc.

I ordered a 2011 ECO boost platinum with 6.5' bed and max payload package. I will be putting a Lance 825 in the back and will be getting a set of timbren on there to help the suspension out.

5.5 foot box might work... But the center of gravity of the camper will most likely put most of the weight on the back axle... Go with 6.5 to be safe.

Read the Ford Camper Guide carefully as posted by Abn above. Note that the wheelbases spec'd to haul a camper in the F150 are for either a regular cab long bed or SuperCab long bed...the 8' bed! There are NO F150 models with either the 6.5' or 5.5' beds that are approved for installation of a pop-up camper. That combination of cab/bed lengths places the COG way too far behind the actual center of the vehicle's wheelbase. Tryin' to drive a truck loaded like that on the X-Way, especially in a cross-wind, would be like trying to hold on to J-Lo's ***** while she's dancin' the salsa....

Not sayin' it can't be done or that there aren't some foolish people out there already doin' it. Merely advising against it.

When I was picking up my truck the salesman gave me a print-out from Ford saying Ford doesn't recommend it, I would have paid more attention to it but it didn't apply to me.
