Excellent comparison. I own the bakflip (Ford OEM) and am really pleased with it. I also liked the Extang but I wanted to keep the stake pockets free. I think both are great products.

I installed the BAK F1 tonight (about 3 hours ago) and the install was a breeze. I was tossing the idea between the solid fold, the ford cover and the F1.
While I didn't do a side by side comparison with them, I have a buddy with a trifecta, and the 2 covers are pretty close as far as operation.
I got a good deal on the Ford cover from dealer (800 installed) but I decided to go with the F1 because of the different surface material. The tubes by the cab I ran out the stake pocket holes, didn't like the idea of tubes hanging down the entire height of the bed. I may still have some adjustments to make, etc but all in all I love the operation and the looks of it.
Solid fold's latch system is probably what made me steer clear, that and I don't have access to the stake pockets for my popup tiedowns.
Both covers have very strong points however...

Assuming you got the top of the line model from BAK, their weight limit is 400 lbs evenly distributed.
Extang's limit is (loosely) 700 lbs. He said it would hold more but 700 is on the product literature.
We just had several days of rain storms. I saw that a few drips made it in, but not enough to get anything wet. Just enough to notice.

How is the Extang in a rainstorm? One of my big frustrations with the BakFlip is that I've needed to tweak it quite a bit to get it truly rain tight. The Ford version which I have has 4 drain tubes, 2 front and 2 rear. I'm not sure what to do with the rear ones, they are just plain in the way and I'm thinking of just plugging the holes and tossing them.

I have the bakflip and wouldnt buy it again. It is way too easy to dent and as has been posted on these forums many times can have some quality issues such as shavings, scratches on rubber parts, etc.
I have a dozen very small dings on mine that I have no idea how I got them, looks like hail damage but it never hailed. Who knows. Oh well I guess, but Id go a different route next time thats for sure.

BakFlip easy to dent
I also found aluminum shavings hanging onto the hinges where they had drilled through for the bolting. I broke them off with needle nose pliers. Lucky the shavings didn't scratch the rest of the lid.

any aluminum cover is subject to dents. I had an Advance folding cover on my last truck for 5 years and it had a couple of minor dimples in those years of use. so far none on my Bakflip HD yet, but also too bad the F1 wasn't out yet when I bought mine.
