I wish I wouldn't have looked at this thread! Now I am contemplating to buy an ESP for my 2012 FX4 I just bought.

I bought one on my '13 Plat- Now I have (2yrs) 45,000 miles- Sunroof jammed open- Dealer said $1800 to fix. Ended up $2200 completely new roof- Not a hint prior to it jamming open- Nothing I did caused it.. Had a $50 ded. Glad I bought the warranty. Dealer said the plastic in the gears/track just crapped out- no fault of user..... Glad I got the warranty but probably will trade to a 16' in 2 yrs.. I run a lot of miles, not hard but a lot.

How much does it cost? I was told that I could only buy the extended warranty at time of sale and cannot add it later. I passed on it. That being said, I wouldn't consider your past 3 years of no issues to be any indicator of future performance. Factory warranties are relatively easy to offer because not much is expected to happen in the first few years of ownership.

No sir, I am definitely not a troll. When I sat in the finance office, the gentlemen began his discussion about the ESP options. He started out with a comprehensive plan which costed a few dollars under 3K which included Gap Coverage, maintenance coverage, tire and wheel coverage, life insurance coverage and the regular extended vehicle warranty. I walked away with simply an extended warranty for 8 years or 100,000 miles which ended up costing me $650 dollars. So no....I am not a troll.

Looking for opinions and advice about extended warranties. I know there are plenty of threads on this subject already but I have a specific question. I live in interior Alaska where the 8 month winters are extreme and hard on vehicles. The factory warranty on my fully loaded 2012 FX4 Eco ends in January. I have not had a single issue with my truck since I bought almost 3 years ago. So my question is should I invest in an extended warranty or take a risk and let my factory warranty run out?
