Default Clicking noise under the dash???

When I turn on my truck, there is a clicking noise that comes from under the dash, down by the floor in the center. The quantity of clicks is different every time I turn on the truck. As little as 4 times, and as many as 31 times.
It also comes on when I turn the key to the acc spot.
At first I thought it had to do with the heating vents. But the heater was not on.
I hear an electronic noise, like a motor just a quick second prior to the clicking.
I have no,idea where to look let alone what to look for.
Anybody have any idea?

it probably is from the heating unit... I know that the default position is defrost so when you shut down the truck it goes to the defrost,,, part of the calibration. The other actuator defaults to cold and fresh air. any one of them will give you that sound if they are going bad,,, the door is stuck or the calibration needs reset! Not sure if you have the dual control or not and about a 2010... I do know about my 2012 and that is how it works. They also have had issues with the actuators and the internal doors needing replaced. If you have a manual system,, then here are the locations... defrost vents is located on the d/s the cold air intake or recycle is on the p/s, the heat blend door is behind the stereo unit and if you have dual the drivers side blend door is located at the bottom of the unit right in the center of the dash!

You're right, mammonti. Interestingly enough, I just stopped by my dealer today because I was having the same issue. The mechanic told me the actuator is going out. I'll be taking it back in a week or so for a fix.

Default Great-another bill!

Anybody have any idea in the cost?
Ironically this morning I had no noise! Did it fix itself?
I do NOT gave the dual controls. How do you know which one it is?

Most likely it is the one right behind your stereo unit! I think the part is about 30 bucks and you could change it out yourself, but you need to follow a process so it calibrates. This is if it is only the actuator and not the internal door. Dealer probably charge a hour for the actuator but if it is the door then you are looking at about 600 bucks..

Sometimes mine won't make a noise either but then it will start up again the next day or so. Can't help with the cost as my repair will be under warranty.

Hi Brucem609,

Your dealership's service manager will be able to provide you with an estimate for any needed repairs. I recommend making an appointment so they can advise you on next steps. Be sure to keep us posted on how things go.

Have you had this repair performed yet, newsnose? If you need me to step in and assist, just send a PM my way with your info. In your message, be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership.

Thanks for checking in on this, Crystal. I'll be calling the dealer later this week to schedule a repair. I don't anticipate any problems as my dealer has always been great and gone the extra mile any time it's been needed.

I'll let you know if there is an issue but I certainly don't anticipate a problem.

I have new news:
The noise does not always happen,
And when it does if I right away change the way air moves through the truck, example the defroster is off, but I turn it on right away, the noise stops!
Hopefully this makes it thru the winter cold
