Please let us know if Ford says anything about the tuner.

Ive had my truck for 30,000 miles. Been tuned for 20,000. Very happy with it, I did and still do have fuel dilution. So I just change the oil every 4,000-5,000 miles. Its well worth the trade off for the power.

Most people don't realize that a modern synthetic oil is very capable of handling 5% fuel dilution, not only that but the earlier car 3.5l ecoboosts used 5w20 oil. So ford is combating this with a 5w30 oil. Plus when people read their dipstick and see an inch over full they freak out, as I did. I have had my oil measured every oil change and that inch above full equates to 1/4L of extra oil.

I am very happy with it and will be buying another ecoboost for my next truck, no doubt in my mind.

Edit: oh and my dealership is tune friendly, hopefully some of yours are too, you just need to have the conversation.

How exactly did you initiate the conversation?

I was in for fuel in oil dilution. The tech mentioned something weird about fuel trims (5 star requires there tune on for warranty work when you have their warranty), so I asked if a tune would have made a difference. He said no, but asked if I would try without the tune for one oil change to see if the tune was causing it. Same issue persisted without the tune, they drained the oil and found some faulty O2 sensors. The service manager then said I could put my tune back on now and thanked me for running without. From there I mentioned the 5 Star warranty and she came out and said it didn't matter to them. They warranty tunes, dpf deletes, etc on all their vehicles. Thought that was pretty cool.

The thing with a tune is the dealership has to prove the tune was the cause of any failures, which is why they asked to run without the tune for a cycle just to rule it out. It shows that the dealer is on top of things. I use 5* tunes, but dont have their warranty, so I put it back to stock any time I take it in, just in case they do an update to the PCM, that way I don't get locked out, or have the tune cause a malfunction during the update.

On mine I am wondering if the tune is causing some delayed shifting, it just doesn't feel right at times, a bit clunky between lower gear shifts. So driving it a day without a tune should let me know if its the tune doing it or not, if not, just something to add to my list of things to look at.

I have a 2012 I bought new. Intercooler tsb and cat converter replaced under warranty. 47k Miles currently. No other issues to speak of, runs great. I have the oil changed every 5k miles and run 93 octane fuel for my piece of mind.

I just traded in my 2011 Ford EcoBoost 3.5L Platinum SCREW for a 2016 EcoBoost Lariat SCREW and I put 105,771 miles on it and the only issues I had was a steering column sensor which was replaced by Ford, and the week prior to me trading it the moon roof remained in the tilt position and the driver's side heater stopped working. So instead of taking chances in case something else went bad, I traded it in! Great truck, fuel mileage was 20-22 Highway using 87OCT 10% Ethanol and and about 14-15 city, through its entire span. Towing a 24' bay boat it dropped to 10-11 MPG. Towing a 18' bass boat it was only a little better at 12-13 MPG.
