My '03 F150 was mint when I sold it. As soon as I bought my 2010 F150, first thing I had done was 'rust check'. They do drill holes to insert the wands to spray the insides of the panels (rust eats from the inside out). But the holes are covered with rust check and plugged with plastic caps. No fear of issues with drilled holes. Before the '03 F150, I had a 1990 S10 Blazer. Had it for 15 years, and no rust with rust check. Not only do I recommend rust check, but I live by it. I would NEVER have a vehicle without it. It saves your body, frame, brake lines....etc BTW, I am not a 'Rust Check' dealer, just a dedicated user and a true believer.
Agreed 100%. Always have my vehicles undercoated every fall here in Eastern Canada. I even got a higher trade in value on my old Jeep when I traded for my first F150 three years ago, because there wasn't a speck of rust on it! Undercoated every year since new. I did my F150 and just did my new to me 2011 F150 last month. Well worth the investment. I've always gone to my local independent dealer who does a Gel undercoat. Only $95 for the truck! Only comment on Rust Check is that my latest truck had been Done there by the last owner. The guy I go to said the underside of the truck was dry as a bone for being Rust Checked a year or two ago. Just a heads up to all, to make sure your dealing with a respectable company and that your getting good quality undercoating.

Had one of mine undercoated and they left 2 feet down the middle of the exhaust so I'm with the waste of money side. Do the whole thing or it's a waste of time and money and you gain nothing

All of our pickups that have been undercoated just had the frame done, they didn't even do the underside of the bed. They still rust after a few years. I'm not sure that it's worth the additional cost.

If a lousy job is done on anything, it may not be effective and not worth the money.
Undercoating done properly with the proper materials is effective at decreasing the rust and extending the longevity of the vehicle.
The dealer cost (to you) for these products is usually 3 to 5 times more than what the shop doing the work would charge you if you walked in and got a price. When the dealer has the vehicle undercoated, the shop knows that the purchaser does not have any come back as the dealer usually does not even inform the customer where the work is being done.
By purchasing from the dealer, you are not only paying several prices, you are losing any possibility of accountability.
I had purchased through a dealer when I first moved to the salt belt. A waste of my money. Later, I purchased via myself going into a reputable shop. What a difference in the quality of the work and coverage of the entire underside.
From my experience, a good undercoat is worth the expense.

I have had my last couple trucks undercoated with a "permanent" product. I had a 2006 F 150 that was completely rust free underneath after 5 years. I get under my trucks each year at least once and touch everything up with a canned product.

For everyone who claims they have an 8 year old truck with no rust that lives in an area that gets heavy salt in the winter, I don't believe it. Some people have very different tolerances to rust. If I see a tiny spot of rust it bothers me. I have see the underside of peoples trucks who claim they have none and it was awful.

The problem with washing cars in the winter in Ohio is a great portion of the wash supply water is recycled and you are spraying SALT wanter under your Truck!!!! I have seen it too many times.. I took a picture of mine once and it was awful.

Yep... that's why keeping a vehicle garaged in the winter can actually make the rust worse. Cold and dry is better than warm and wet in the winter.

It's not, in fact my local dealer doesn't even offer it anymore, lol! I complained about paying for undercoating and them leaving a two foot path around the exhaust and they said they had to our it gets hot and melts and stinks. I traded it off since but at least the part of it won't rust for a couple years before the undercoating inevitably falls off, lol

Rust checking vs. undercoating.... These terms are being used interchangably, but not the same thing. Undercoating does just that, undercoats. Whereas rustcheck or a similar products are sprayed into the doors. panels. tailgate...etc by drilling holes into the body panels. The Rustcheck will dry up on the chassis, thats why its done each year. You may see a few surface spots on the chassis, but the body panels are fine. The sprayed in substance displaces moisture inside the panels so the rust cant form on the inside. The 'inside' rust is the main problem. I swear by it.....
