I myself like the idea of dual purpose gadgets....to have it when you need it. Also I recently noticed that the 2014 F150 Crew does not have a seal lip on the roof line?! So when I ......most carefully step up on the running boards to wash my truck, their is nothing to grab on to?!.....Hence,.....a roof rack may be the answer?
I mean....even my ole Titan had a deep groove to get a good hold.... to get a firm grip to be able to wash(reach) the top of the cab!
Any suggestions

You can mount Yakima tracks directly to the roof (very low profile, looks oem) and then mount something like a Baja Mule rack directly to the tracks without crossbars...

The crossbars make the basket sit up way to high though. not a fan of that look

They’re pretty easy to build if you’re looking for something custom. Here’s a cooler carrier I built as a bumper attachment, same thing as a roof rack just smaller. A for pics of the build process for those curious:

Final product, powder-coated, with attachment arms:

I’d be happy to make a custom roof-rack - for the right price!
