Default Automatic console shift lever position indicator

I like the console shifter on my 2010 F-150 Platinum, but one thing about it really sucks. Unless you take your eyes off the road and look down at the console, there is no way to tell which forward gear you are in unless you read the speedometer and tachometer and do the math (in your head).

I didn't think this would be a problem, but more than once, I have taken off in 3rd gear and didn't realize it until 1/2 mile later. (It's hard to hear the engine over-revving in a Platinum.) Also it's a PITA when selecting the proper gear for engine braking on long downhill slopes on mountain roads, especially in the dark.

Question:
Does anyone know of any vehicle with automatic console shifter that does not display the selected gear on or near the instrument panel (in a more "heads up" display) as compared to being buried down in the console?

Until my 2010 F-150 Platinum, I have never seen any automatic shifters (console or column) without gear selection display on or near the instrument panel. Did the Ford design engineers forget to do their homework?

Interesting to note that this omission was corrected in the 2011 F-150 console shifters (according to other posts on this website).
