Please contact us so we can take care of that for you As some others have just mentioned, the DSP ballasts will not have any cold start issues guaranteed. posted by trs on another forum
How can it be bulbs if when I put my older ballasts in after attempting the DSP , then my one light worked again? I think maybe what TRS is saying is that our old bulbs aren't compatible with the DSP ballasts?? Which all around makes no sense, seems like an excuse and easier than saying " we don't know why at the moment"?

I'm just asking the questions before I start my retro and end up having similar problems. I am definitely an amateur since this will be my first retro.
You don't want my real opinion....

You should seriously wait until TRS has the issue resolved. I would cancel order and follow along on this thread to see how TRS deals with their faulty products, and you will hear (rightly or wrongly) our personal replies to how our customer service experience is with this matter.

Once it's dealt with then re-order. They obviously have no ideas, really, what the real issue is with the new DSP ballasts!

Bil and tux use the same components we do and will have customers with the same issues if they used the same ballast (which I'm positive they do) the issues we are having are with the electrical. Even if you have a pro do your lights, installation will be up to you. It's basically plug and play so chances of messing up an install is slim. Like I mentioned. Just a bad bunch of ballasts, your new order will most likely have the new ballast so it's not an issue
What do you mean the new ballasts aren't an issue? Neither one of my brand new DSP ballast worked with my currently functional headlight retro which ran off an older ballast. My DSP ballast aren't compatible with something in my system, because I put my old ballast in, and light worked again.

Either not compatible or Both brand new DSP Ballasts don't work out of the box

I have this feeling like I'm about to get a whack load of angry replies and PM's. Just trying to bring to light both sides, based on personal experience and my logic!

My history with TRS:

TRS history

Original order:

The Retrofit Source Inc
------------------------------------------------------
Order Number: 52188
Date Ordered: July 16, 2013

Problem #1, defective bulb:

Hi Joel

Thanks for your reply. If you swap the bulbs, does the dimness also move to the other? Do you happen to have any pictures of this issue specifically?

Thanks again Joel!

Thanks zach,

The concern with mounting with just the 3 screws to hold the projector in place was that I noticed the projector showed movement side to side while going over the smallest bumps in the road.

The truck is brand new, and I am wanting to keep it long term, looking to have the projectors in for many years,

Questions for you: one light output is significantly brighter than the other , I have removed the hid bulb , wiped with alcohol wipes and still same result.

The projector pattern on the wall looks very similar between the two,

Any guess as to what could be causing this? Projector defect or hid bulb defect?

Thank you,

Hello Joel,

Zach here at TRS. I know we spoke on the phone this morning and got everything straightened out (I've already emailed what you asked me to but i'll mention it again just in case you didn't receive the email). You won't be voiding the warranty by using the bulb holder to mount the projector with. Since it was our recommendation (both on the website, and during our phone call) you certainly won't void any warranty on the items.

Thanks Joel! Let us know if you have any further questions.

Solution to problem #1?, TRS sold me a capacitor... Spent more money to try and make kit work...

See emails:

Aug 27/2013...

Hi Joel

Thanks for your emails and sorry to hear of the troubles with the harness. You can definitely add in a capacitor to smooth out that pulsating (PWM) signal. We have capacitors available for $15 or you may be able to find a 35v 4700uf capacitor locally and tap it in yourself.

Please let us know if we can answer any other questions or be of any additional assistance.

Thanks again Joel!

Day after:

The Retrofit Source Inc

**** then I emailed TRS:

**** I paid AGAIN more money thinking a new bulb would remedy my flickering....
-------------------

Aug 29/2013

TRS acknowledges my issue hasn't been resolved and ...

Pair: 3Five H1 4300k $40.00 x1
- Combine with order 56410 $0.00 x1

Sends me new ballasts. Doesn't resolve issue.

Oct 16/2013 email....

Thanks for the video--I can see a definite delay there, so the capacitor we sent is still working fine.

As such, I can only assume the truck itself is protesting having only that one H13 plugged up. One thing to check when time allows is to plug in a halogen bulb into the opposite H13 connector that is not being used and see if the headlights turn on every single time without issue, even in "auto" mode.

Thank you again for your patience and working with us here, Joel. We sincerely appreciate it.

Andrew @ TRS

******** I called TRS Dec6/2013 and typed out main points of our phone call and emailed it to you to confirm in writing, which as you will see I didn't receive....

Hi Joel,

Thanks for your reply. We see no reason why the new products won't work as they are suppose to. But if for some strange reason they don't we will certainly get you taken care of.

Thanks again Joel!

Jamielle @ TRS

Hi Andrew,

Just to reiterate our phone call from today (Friday dec 6@ 3:30),

You have order new stronger ballasts and are sending them along with a new relay harness under warranty. (Wires are exposed where harness hooks up to factory harness)

Once installed and tested in my truck, if they don't work, and this we have replaced the whole system twice, I can mail back the whole kit for a refund.

Thank you,

Joel Brandt

--------

Then dec 16/2013

TRS sends me....
Pair: Clear Cube Relays (WR) $0.00 x1
- Pair: 3Five AMP-DSP Ballasts (WR) $0.00 x1
- Shipping Credit $-10.00 x1

Cube relays don't apply to my harness, hey, mistakes happen.

Then to ship these parts I end up paying again to remedy the faulty parts? Hmmm
Products
------------------------------------------------------
1 x Shipping Credit () = $-10.00
1 x Pair: 3Five AMP-DSP Ballasts (WR) () = $0.00
1 x Pair: Clear Cube Relays (WR) () = $0.00
------------------------------------------------------
Sub-Total: $-10.00
USPS Express Mail International: $43.27
Total: $33.27

---------

Update as of Jan 2/2014, new DSP ballasts both don't work with my headlights, one of my old SS ballasts still works for one headlight, I have removed the whole retro & hid kit, converted back to halogens, and trust that TRS based upon reply from TRS, phone call with Andrew and email from Jamielle dec 6/2013, that a reputable company like TRS would understand the situation and issue a credit.

Please advise how to proceed.

I think the bulbs are supposed to be compatible, I also think you've had the worst luck and experience. I was just saying I wouldn't worry about any new orders or dealing with bil and tux (or whomever else) I'm sure trs will get it all sorted out.

Don't want to quote your last message but you had to pay for shipping? Maybe I missed something but what exactly have you been paying for? It sounds like everything should be a warranty item.
I know that they didn't believe that my bulb broke while driving, (the tabs that hold the d2s connector broke right off) so I had to buy new bulbs and pay shipping, they also sent me the warranty form, I sent it back within the hour and haven't receive a reply confirming. I know they are closed and backed up, I'm hoping by Tuesday I get a confirmation about my warranty ballast.

I will give updates here to how trs deals with me
