Unless someone comes up with a valid reason as to why I shouldn't just buy this eBay $300 set, crack it open and replace the internals with a TRS projector kit, I'm gonna get started in a few weeks.

Can someone please explain why you can't start with an eBay housing that looks exactly like what you want in the finished product but modify the guts to have legit hardware?
In most cases it's actually easier to start using the EBay lights because they aren't sealed as good. Now I know from first hand experience that it is easier to use eBay lights with the new Ram truck headlights when doing the retrofit. Most eBay lights use a type of butyl and not the Permaseal stuff that is miserable to undo like the stocks have. I don't know if your trucks are similar but I would imagine so. I only need 220 degrees for 10 mins and the headlight is apart with Ram eBay lights.

Yep, the biggest complaints with the knock off lights is condensation or poor light quality. You fix both when doing a Retro, I'm buying a set off Amazon with good reviews and the color scheme I want.

The other and biggest issue is poor outer lens quality that yellows over time like old ****ty lights on 90s cars. Or so I've heard.
