Default This is that retrofit thread we talked about!

Okay...As some of you may know , a bunch of us recently ordered retrofit kits from TRS on a group buy sale with the intent of building our own headlights.

I know that at least a few people on here have done these themselves, and I encourage you to chime in with what you have learned and help us out.

If you have links post them up.
If you have pics ,post them up.

If you think you can help, or have any ideas etc.......post up!!

Here we go guys.
I'll start. Here is what I ordered.

Products
  • 1x Bi-xenon FX-R Stage III Kit: $335.00
    • Bulbs: Morimoto 3Five 6000K D2S
    • Ballasts: Morimoto 3Five (35w)
    • Halos: No Thanks
    • Projectors: LHD (3" Lens)
    • Re-sealing Glue: Yes please
    • Shrouds: Apollo V.2
    • Wire Harness: Relay: H13/9008
  • 1x Side Emitting Audi Style LED strips: $25.00

I also bought a set of new stock heads to do the retro so I am in no hurry. My Harley/Limited heads will be for sale in a couple of weeks btw, so PM me if you are interested. I am in Alberta Canada.

New lights.

I will be painting the shrouds pearl white to match my truck, tinting the amber reflector ,and have chrome bulbs that light up amber for the signals. Also running the LED's alnong the bottom of the light, inside the housing though.

Don't take it the wrong way, but that background with the tattoo looks pretty well taken care of.

Shroud and bezel test fitted. Black shroud and bezel painted with gloss black krylon fusion.

FXR vs Halogen:

Will have more progress tonight as I picked up some JB Steel Stik and lots of JB weld and am going to seal up the PJ's to the buckets, regardless of the fact that I don't have any reflectors to finish the job.

This thread name should be "The ultimate retrofit thread of monumental amplitude"

i came in here with full intentions to post some good info on retros but after seeing that ***, this thread must be sidetracked. I say any and all people with retros withhold info... you know, for the greater good!

I haven't got my lights or kit yet but here's what I ordered:

- OEM FX4/Harley heads
- Bi-xenon FX-R Stage III Kit
- Morimoto 5Five 5000K D2S
- Morimoto 5Five (50w)
- Amber halos
- LHD, 3" lens
- Re-sealing Glue
- Apollo V.2 shrouds
- H13/9008 relay harness

This is my planned build as of now:
- OEM gloss black color on the headlight bezels
- satin black on the main reflector
- gloss black on the shroud (toying with the idea of throwing in some Ingot Silver as well)
- OEM reflector w/o tint
- tinted turn signal
- amber LED halo mounted behind shroud

In the other thread I talked about using a sharpie and blacking out the backside of a chrome turn signal bulb to hopefully "smoke" the turn signal reflector similar to what the black bulb shield does in a FX4/Harley headlight. I tried that tonight and it didn't work too well so I'll probably use the window tint method that Bilinvic uses (gotta give props to Bil for this one. That was a genius idea!).

I plan to get my headlights opened up tomorrow night and dive right in. What all are you guys taking off of the headlight before baking them? Obviously bulbs, connectors, etc. but what else? I know there's also a vertical adjustment contraption and a couple of metal fasteners that hold the light in. Here's a pic of the back of the headlight:
