Question Resonator (Possibly) removal

I was wondering if anyone here has redone their exhaust in a cheap (less than $300) way, and how they did it. I was just under the frame of my truck and saw that my truck (09 F-150 XL, i know, cheapo lol) had dual exhaust, as far as I know, didn't look too far into it, but there were two resonators and pipes goin into the stock muffler. Obviously, I'm not a big truck wiz, but I was wondering from stock what I could do without spending too much. I read removing the resonator was a cheap way to get some more sound, but before I removed them, I wanted some opinions from some guys (or girls ) with some experience in this field. Thanks guys.

Hey, humility will get you far here (and in life too) but don't sell yourself short with your rig. Your XL model is still a more desirable truck than any model of any Chevy/GMC/Dodge/Toyota that I would want. Good luck.

Talking

Yakuzagang5,
Those resonators I think that you are talking about are your Catalytic Converters. That means you need those in order for the vehicle to be legal. You could possibly put some high flow converters on there but that is over $100 already. I just recently got dual exhaust done for about $250. My current set up might be too loud for you but at least it is place to start. You could go with more quieter Flowmaster or Magnaflow for whichever sound you desire. There are too many to list. Good luck...

$250 is a good price. Is that true dual exhaust or single in dual out.

Around here you are looking at spending as much as $550 for true dual exhaust. I found a good deal and got got it put on for $320 + Tax. I have some pictures in my album (Link below). I have true dual magnaflows. I love the sound and I do not have cab drone when I am going down the HWY.

As for the catilitic converters. Check with your state but here in Texas it is illegal to do anything to them unless one goes bad, and the shops around here will not even touch it.

As I said, not very mechanically smart when it comes to trucks lol but thanks for the help guys. I would like to get dual exhaust, as it already is dualed just goin into the same muffler, but 09BlkSTX I really like the tone of your exhuast. I guess I'll just shop around for some good deals at gettin em dualed out, and any suggestions on where to get some high flow converters would be great. Thanks again guys

My current sent is Single In ----> Dual out. It is not a true dual system. Also, I did not touch the Catalytic Converters at all either. As far as I know it doesn't void my warranty...good luck Yakuzagang5

if you do not mess with the cat's it will not void your warranty. But it is like everything else you may have a little bit of a fight to get things done at certain dealerships. It does not change any of the emissions and unless it gets clogged then it will not passably hurt the engine. I was originally going to go to the dealership to get it put on but I found a better deal. I have taken it in for a warranty issue and they didn't say anything except that they liked it.

I just had an SI/DO muffler welded on today for $107.76. I just had turndowns welded on and dumped it before the rear axle. You can do this if you are looking for cheap sound like I was. I also like the lack of tailpipes sticking out, makes for a cleaner look in my opinion.
