Here's the quote directly from this link: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...ce/Silverstar/

Quote:
Claims based on measured comparisons between SilverStar and SilverStar Ultra product families at 100% light output and standard halogen bulbs at 80% light output. Actual performance may vary by product use, vehicle model and usage.

Look guys, I'm not here to stir the pot, or with some agenda. Hell I don't even know who the guy is I linked you too; all I know of him is that he's considered something of an expert on this stuff. But if you don't like his analysis, Google will give ya a bunch more. Just gotta look

I went thru this with my Magnum 5 years ago; the headlights from the factory suck. I ran a real world test in which I put brand new bulbs up against Silverstars, HIDs and HIRs. HIDs were the clear winner, with HIRs doing very well, followed by the OEMs and in a very distant last place were the Silverstars. Here's a link to the writeup my buddy did of the test we carried out together: http://www.lelandwest.com/auto-tech/light_bulb_saga.cfm

I've already contacted the HIR supplier to the US for a set of H13's. His response was "not going to happen" because of the dual filament nature of the H13. The technology just isnt there for H13 based HIRs.

Long story short; I spent some coin on Silverstars myself and found them to be terrible, both in terms of life and in terms of quality of output throughout that lifetime (these things degrade crazy fast). I will grant ya though, they sure do look pretty.

Just thought I'd pass along some hard learned knowledge.

Jason, it's really ok. Your opine is as good as mine. Not trying to kill the messenger !!!

Here is a recap of my thoughts on this.

I am pretty easy to satisfy I guess, I love my truck and I am not a 'wee-wee' boy when it comes to any issues that may arise, with respect to how my new 2009 F150 was engineered or manufactured. I think I got every bit of my money's worth with my vehicle.

Having said that, while the stock lights were o.k., they were not exceptional. I live in a semi-rural area of my state; if I drive east just 45 minutes, I can be at Echo Summit on US-50 and look down at beautiful South Lake Tahoe. Street lighting is minimal in my community/region.

Accordingly, having changed to the Sylvania SilverStar H13's, my headlights are now really very good IMO, they are brighter, they project further down the road and they also provide more of the beam to the sides; moreover, the light is in fact more white in hue, and the headlights themselves just look better, looking at the truck at night, with the clean, crisp white light. This is not the assessment of some [unknown] third party, this is my direct assessment, driving my truck every day in the real world environment in which I live and work and play. This is not rocket science. Either a customer is happy with them, or they are not.

If in fact, I only get 66% of the bulb life I would have obtained from my stock lights, then that is something I can accept, because I am very happy with the day to day performance I am getting from these units.

In addition, I am happy with the replacement ST bulbs in my back up lights, my cargo lights, and my tail, stop, and turn signals. They are brighter/more intense!!

And John, I did have to look up the Latin in the dictionary. I only knew the Latin term of quid pro quo.

Jason and NorCal,

Very good discussion and information on the lights. Wish more threads had the pros and cons done so professionally.

First I would like to know where to get the 921st bulbs? I have not been able to find them and really want the cargo area lit up better.

Second, I want to say that after replacing my headlights and fog lights with silverstars about 3-4 months ago I can tell a huge difference. I can see much better with the bulbs in, and I agree with NorCal that even if they have a 66% shorter life span than the oem bulbs, I think they are worth the money.

For my research I put the bulbs in and then went and picked up my dad. I took him for a ride at night and he loved them too. This proved it to me, because he loves to tell me when I waste money on things. He has even braged to his friends about how much better they are than stock.

Silverstars are a winner in my book

Autozone has the 921ST bulbs if they are in your area. $7.99 a pack I believe.

Not sure if this link will work:

Yes, this is true, and that is where I purchased mine. There are two bulbs to the pack of 921 ST's.

Just to clarify the math in the previous post; the info provided by the other member indicated that the ST's will last only about two thirds (66%) of the life of the stock bulbs, so in essence he is saying you will get approx 33% less service life out of the ST's vs. the dimmer OE bulbs.

Again, something I can live with, considering how well they perform for me, and it seems for others also.

Thanks for the link, I had looked at autozone and they told me that they did not carry them. But that was a couple months ago so I guess they got them now.
