Default Got the new camper!

Picked it up Saturday. Truck pulled her like a champ! Fuel mileage was down in the 6's in the hills but once I got down south to the flats in come up to 10.6! I was very pleased at how well my truck performed.

Equalizer WD hitch worked flawlessly too. Never once felt it sway or move at all...many miles on interstate around Atlanta too.

5.0 with 3.73 gears. Was telling my wife on the ride home that I was glad I stuck to my guns on my request for the 3.73 gears because the GM at the dealership was trying to convince me to go with the 3.55's. Didn't even anticipate at the time that we would be purchasing a camper, just knew I wanted the right gears if I had to do any towing. Worked out very well. Couldn't be happier with how well the truck performed!

whats your take on that outback? I'm recently in the market for a trailer as well and we've been eying a few different models. I really liked the Outback 230RS with the toy hauler portion in the front

It looked really tall on the lot and I was a bit worried it may be too tall. But seeing one hooked up to your truck makes me feel a lot better.

Congrats and enjoy! There really isn't a down side to 3.73 gears as the difference in fuel mileage is barely measurable. My sales guy said they didn't have any Max Tow packages on the lot, so I took him out and showed him two.

Yes, you'll never regret those 3.73s. Better all way around and you don't give up much of anything in the way of mileage empty while you'll actually probably do better loaded than any other gear.

looks awesome!!! I doubt I will ever tow anything like that with my little big truck (aka reg cab short bed 2wd) but I would like to get something bigger than my 900lb pop-up which basically just a tent on wheels.
I am really considering swapping my 3.31's for 3.73's
in a 2wd 5.0 reg cab short bed, my only choices were 3.31's and 3.55's. I really wanted the 55's, but of trucks available to me when I bought mine I had to decide what I wanted more, 3.55's or select shift. I figured if I REALLY wanted the better gears I could add them later down the road, but select shift was a MUST HAVE.

The 230RS is standard Keystone height (just shy of 11 feet). Outbacks are good looking rigs. I couldn’t spring for the extra money, so I got a Passport.

We were originally looking at a Bullet 246RBS which had the floor plan we liked. I couldn't find that floor plan or something similar in any other make, and I looked at literally hundreds! Then I just happened to be on the Keystone website and looked at the Outbacks again and seen the new 2013 274RB, which apparently replaced the 279RB. It is the exact floor plan of the Bullet we looked at but with a couple of differences that we liked, so we went with it.

Outbacks are built better than the Bullets too, which are more entry level, so we had to pay a little more but it was worth it for the better quality and differences. The Bullets are very lightweight and do have a smaller profile so I was concerned about the size of the Outback too. But once I went out and seen my truck hooked up I thought the same thing, "ah man that ain't as bad as I was thinking!"

We camped in it the night we bought it and absolutely loved it! We are new to RV's but we got set up and going easily and then the next morning got everything undone and hit the road with ease. My truck and the Equalizer hitch working so well made things a lot better too. I was so curious as to how my truck would handle everything but the 5hr drive home with half of that on the interstate, going around Atlanta to boot, done nothing but confirm that I've got the right truck and the right hitch!
