Anyone having distance issues trying to use the Ford remote starter? Can't get very far away to start my F150. remote locks and unlocks the doors 300 feet away, just no start. Thanks

When i picked up my truck new the remote start worked flawlessly from 300+ ft same as lock/unlock. Recent I could barely get 20ft out of it so before I started down the long trouble shooting path I did the easiest thing first and replaced the 2032 battery in the key. Now, I'm back to the same distances as when it was new.

Worth a shot, 5 bucks for 2 energizer 2032 batteries, good luck!

How far away do you want it to work?

This may sound strange but I've found better results holding the key fob flat with one end pointed at the truck, than vertically facing me with the buttons.

A year ago I was also having trouble with distance so I took the battery out, checked it with a meter and it showed in spec so I put it back in and haven't had any issues since. Those little spring metal tabs don't keep a good connection at all, so reseating the battery is the first line of defense any time there is an issue.

Default Remote range is... awesome?

I was just looking at the long range remote systems on the Ford accessories site because there was a possibility that I would have to park outdoors for work this winter (underground clearance bar is set at 6'). However, when I actually tried out the remote from the office it worked! The first attempt took a couple presses to work so I held the key blade up to my chin and both the locks and remote start worked perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised and giggled like a child as I watched startled pedestrians do double-takes as they walked by. In the end, it didn't make a difference for me because I found out our underground has a truck section

Conditions: I have the 100 series remote integrated into the key. I work on the 15th floor and my car was parked at street level at a lot across the road. I had direct line of sight from the window I was standing at and I was facing the right-rear quarter of the truck.

This might sound crazy, but hold the key up to your chin and press the buttons...works almost every time.

This ^^^

It's the most likely cause, but maybe not the 100% solution in all cases. I use my remote start A LOT (a dozen times a week maybe??) and I'm on my third battery since January 3, 2014 when I took delivery. Batteries are cheap on Amazon.

I was having quite a few issues with both remotes for my truck, I would replace the battery every few weeks. Following advice here I gently bent the contact outwards and replaced the battery. I haven't had issues since.
