Remote Access Install on '13 FX4 - New Style VSS and RMU

Great write up - Thanks!
Please do keep us updated on the performance. I wonder how this system will work compared to the aftermarket. Plug and play is great - so I hope the system works excellently.

Excellent write up and tutorial.
I also installed my system about 1.5 years ago but didn't need the VSS. I was adding remote access to my factory 100 series remote start system. Mine is also a 2013 FX4.
I actually just renewed my annual subscription for the remote access service a few months ago because I love it so much.
I can unlock and start from anywhere in the world where I have cell phone signal.
I've had my daughter call me 2700 miles away from at home where my truck was parked as she needed something from inside. I asked her to hold on for second, I unlocked from my phone, she grabbed her stuff and then I locked it back.
The most valuable benefit is when I land at the airport from work travel. I live in TX and my AC is ice cold by the time I gather my luggage and arrive to where I parked.
I also use mu phone to start my truck when I'm climbing down from cold **** deer stand. By the time I hike back to my truck I can climb in and thaw out immediately.
I think its a very nice feature and makes remote start more realistic. Using the factory remote fob on the key to remotely start I need to be within spitting distance of my truck to work. ha

Installing the VSS is no longer an option.... it's mandatory. The RMU plugs in the VSS. The older system that plugged in the passenger side of the truck didn't require it.

End result and benefit are in fact the same though and valuable in my opinion.
Thanks for clarifying Vmax!

Excellent write up and great idea on the LED's! With them pointing in either direction any would be thieves will certainly be alerted by them.
I should note something with these kits is that if your truck does not have factory remote start or a previously added remote start system a dealer will need to turn on this feature using the dealer IDS tool.
If you already have remote start this kit can be easily added and activated by us with NO dealer visit required.
Thanks,
Benny

Final step today was to activate the RMU over the phone with Benny. Within a minute on our call, Benny was testing the remote system as I stood next to the F150.
He tested everything from his end for a few minutes to make sure it was working and gave me the PIN needed for the app which I've got running, between my wife and I, on three cell phones and two tablets, lol.
Benny is a top notch guy to work with and it was a pleasure doing business.

What base remote start package was on your truck? I am wondering if the cheapest option is the best option...

Outstanding write up
wish i had this when i installed mine
for the guys asking i went with the 200 series with the bi-directional remote from benny - think the cost was just shy of 300 (without cell access) and then another $50.00 to have the dealer activate it through the IDS
