New guy here. I just wanted to post a +1 for the rear window explosion. I didn't even bother with Ford based on what I have read and made it an insurance claim for "glass". This incident seemed to be the beginning of a slew of weird electrical issues (see me post in "introductions")

Picked up a 2012 F-150 SCREW 3.5 Ecoboost in Feb '16. In Apr '16 was driving to airport and heard a helluva bang - sounded like a large rock hitting the roof.

Got parked, did a quick look and seen nothing. It was snowing pretty good that day, and the rear was iced over and the rear defogger wouldn't turn on and had never worked quite right since buying truck. Sometimes it would go on, other times not. I figured it was a switch or some type of short.

Long story short, got back from our trip, went to back out of parking spot and now with no snow/ice on back I noticed the shattered window. Began looking at prices and contacted insurance - I didn't have glass coverage at the time so no go there. Realized this was a common issue and went back to dealer. Dealer refused to work with me on it stating they would not cover it on the truck (even though I purchased a warranty for the use vehicle), and had no record of me owning the vehicle. After some kicking and screaming they did replace it for free - especially after showing them the forums around the web and throwing some poor service reviews on social media.

Basically I think the power sliding rear window had bad connection on the defroster and it happened that the contact was made and more or less power surged the defroster and that instant heat popped the cold iced up window.

What exactly is Ford doing wrong that other manufactures are doing right with this rear window and defroster issue?
So 8 months later now and defrost stopped working again. Took it to the dealer and they said that they will need to replace the rear windshield again. Hopefully this doesn't keep happening in the future. Also my windshield never exploded just the defrost button wouldn't engage both times.

Windshield is the front glass. Rear window or rear glass is what you mean.

Sorry just driving me nuts.

So yesterday, the rear window stopped working on my replacement panel. Possibly just frozen although I had no problems when it was much more snow and ice out. Anyone else have their replacement stop working?

I'm going in some time this month for the brake master cylinder recall. I plan to raise it with the dealer then.

Default 2014 fx4

My rear window just exploded on my 2014 FX4. Driving along a smoothly paved road, defroster on and thought someone shot at my truck it was so loud. Got out to look at truck and didn't notice anything (truck has a fiberglass cap), figured maybe a large rock hit inner wheel well. A few days later, as the sun was shining between the cap and the back window I noticed the glass was shattered.

I called my dealership and they said it would not be covered as they don't cover glass, but to call Ford Canada Customer Service. Customer Service rep says that they have never heard of such a thing. When I mention the hundreds I have read about online, she says that she will escalate it to her manager, which may take a few days for a callback. Today is a week later and still haven't heard back.

Will post again when I hear back from them...
