Is there a way to control how hot the back window gets?

I don't think so. Other than manually shutting it off at X time - other than that I don't believe there is.

144°F is pretty ridiculous tho. It shouldn't get THAT hot.

So Crystal helped get me a case number opened and in contact with my regional customer service rep. He called me this morning and said there's nothing that can be done since it's outside the 3 year, 36k warranty. Of course he was completely dismissive and said this is the first time he's heard of the issue even though I told him a simple google search will retrieve the many articles and NHTSA reports. He also stated that every case is looked at in a "nut shell" so it's not a factor if it's happening to anyone else. I need to start to record these calls as the deflection of culpability is comical. I feel like I'm in that movie The Firm where the policy of that insurance company is to deny, deny, deny. I haven't had a chance to take it to the dealership yet. I'm hoping to get a better reception from them as my family has bought at least a dozen vehicles in the past from them but I'm not getting my hopes up. Thanks again Crystal as I really appreciate your assistance. I'm just not too happy with the results at this time.

You should call your local news...they may be interested. They had a segment here in south Florida on the local news. The gentleman had a small child in the rear. They also mentioned that the problem was wide spread. This was about 3or4 months ago.

Yup, pretty much the same response I got when I contacted Ford. They dont care. Until someone gets hurt or someone starts a suit they will continue to ignore the issue.

They don't care until it costs them money somehow. I pulled the fuse out of my 2010 this morning. Thanks for the information!

Mine blew up.

This is how you can replace it yourself or make repairs to the motor.

Default Exploding Rear Window

I drive a 2110 Ford 150 with sliding rear window. On two occasions the window has shattered. Once in the fall with the defroster off the passenger portion of the window shattered into a thousand pieces while making a right hand turn into an upsloping driveway. I believe differential tourquing of the cab frame was the culprit as the defroster was off in November. The whole window panel had to be replaced at a cost of around $CDN950.

A year later the same thing happened in the dead of winter with the defroster on as I was making a lefthand turn the driverside portion of the back window shattered into a thousand pieces. This time the repair cost about $CDN1350 as Ford had a more expensive replacement part to put in.

Both times the dealer put a request in to request Ford cover the costs as this was not due to abnormal operation of the vehicle. This request was denied by Ford. I was privately told that similar (15-10 times) events had occurred at that dealer. The fact that they installed a new part number suggests that Ford knows there is a problem but does not take responsibility as they should. I was told to keep my receipts as a class action and recall is likely. How does one start a class action?

Has anyone gotten this issue fixed? I have a 2012 F-150 and I'm in the military. I just moved to Colorado and within the first week here, I used the factory remote starter and when I came out to my truck I noticed that it had shattered one of my back windows. Unfortunately, even though the truck is only 2 1/2 years old, I'm in the military and have moved twice in that time period and I have 44,000 miles on the truck. Ford is telling me that it's outside of the warranty and pretty much to pack sand. I'm getting to the point that I will never buy another Ford again and will steer all my soldiers away from buying a Ford as well.
