I'm thinking about getting a back up camera installed in my 2011 truck. My question is what are the wire for that run into the back of the self dimming rear view mirror. I see a dimmer on the mirror it's self so I'm not sure what the wires are for.

...that's fun i thought nav was useless, I got the 'camera in the mirror' option works great, use it every day.

The wires plug into the mirror. I'm gonna disconnect them tomorrow to see if it effects anything regarding sync or navigation. Not sure why it would but I can't figure out why the wires are there.

After I unplugged the wires the only thing that did not work was the compass.

There is a circuit board in the mirror that controls the compass. I think in earlier model years the compass readout readout was in the mirror where now it is in the information screen.
