Rear Differential Leaking

Rear Differential Leaking
Has anyone had problems with a leaking rear differential? I have a 2010 with the 3.55 open rear differential. Just to the left of the pumpkin housing, you can see where fluid has seeped out of the differential housing over time and has that wet, stained look that is somewhat caked up with dirt and grime. There's no fluid on the ground yet.
Thanks,
Daniel

If I had to pull the diff cover, I'd replace it with a MagHytec diff cover. I had one on a previous (Ram POS) truck. They are VERY nice with a magnetic dip stick, threaded drain and fill plugs, fins to dissipate heat, full O-ring seal, and look awesome. I might replace my Ford cover with one at some point.
Make sure you check the diff oil level, you really don't want any issues back there. Worse case, you can pull the cover, re-apply (black) RTV, and seal it back up ( fill it back up of course ) .

I wish it was that easy. It's not the diff cover. The leak is located on the left side of the pumpkin housing, where the shaft housing bolts onto the pumpkin.

Keepin' the lights on!
Clean and dry the area and apply some RTV around the tube. Also check the vent to make sure thats not plugged. Happens from time to time on all different makes.

Is just time to replace the oil. Oil already lose viscosity and it tends to be more tiny, it will found the weakest point to go out, it start spreading around with just some like humidity.
It happen to my rear diff. I change the oil an problem solve. I also add the maghytec diff cover

So I took my truck to the local Ford dealer today. They called saying the leak was normal and that it was coming out of the differential vent tube. The work order also states "the tech was unable to verify concern, raised vehicle and inspected. No leaks present at this time". I call BS.
Here are some pics of the rear end....
I don't know. I still think a truck with 25k should not be leaking or look wet at the rear just yet.
