Torn between getting one of these and tinting it or getting a smoked LED third brake light as the current one sticks out too much against the gray paint...

2013 FX4 with Appearance Package.
September 2013 build date. Plug and play here.

I do have a question though. The old one was flush with the cab(plastic touching metal), this one seems to have a much thicker seal and the plastic is a mm or 2 stepped off from the cab in some small areas on the sides. Is this normal? The seal is pushing up against the cab and screws tightened all the way. I'm guessing seal will compress over time and I may be able to tighten it a tad bit more soon?

My old one was the same as your old one and my Raptor one is the same as you described. No problems so far. Haven't tightened mine any further than when I first installed it either.

Thanks, I was just worried after all of the leaking stories I have heard and it just didn't seem right. I read a little bit earlier in the thread after I posted and people mentioned the same thing as well. It hasn't rained for over a week...since I have installed it, so couldn't find out that way either, lol.

I live in Seattle and it rains a ton! no leaking so far. I encountered the same thing you did but everything seemed tight so I didn't worry.

I installed mine today and thank god I had the 4th wire, it was just pnp. My truck is a 2013 built in 2012. I sprayed VHT on it to darken it a bit and now it matches my truck perfectly

Ordered mine this morning. From what I have read pretty sure my truck should have the running light wire. Guess I will find out.

Installed and all works great. Very easy mod. Took me all about 25 min to do. Just popped out rear headliner clips, went in thru rear slider, and it was plug and play. Running lights work with no additional wiring.
