Default 4x4 issues?

Not sure if I'm posting this in the right section and tried a search but found helpful, so here's my issue.
I have a fx4, 2011. Bought it last year end of January 2014. Tried to drive up my driveway the other day, stopped at the bottom, put it in 4 hi and started up. Back wheels started spinning after a couple hundred feet and I can hear a bit of clanking in the front but the front wheels do not lock in?
I tried 4lo too, tried driving it on the road a bit to get it to engage but no luck. I can not even get up my driveway.
I haven't taken a good look at it but did notice a lot of grease on the passenger side inside of front wheel?
I am hoping it is covered under warranty, I have the cpo warranty on drivetrain but just out of the 1 year full warranty coverage. Barely even used the 4x4 until now and it doesn't work 7th truck but first ford I ever owned and I love the truck but have already had more issues with it than any of my other trucks. I really hope they cover this! If not I'll be stuck with a 2x4 until I can fix it myself.

I would suggest learning the way the 4x4 operation works... Sometimes there is some noise with it engaging. I'm sure there are some good threads and probably videos on youtube.... You might not have any issues at all.

Your post is a joke. Guy is trying to learn. Cut him some slack.

Read up on how the 4x4 system works. They are vacuum actuated hubs. Ill post a video when I finish this post.

I would suggest that you engage the system before your stuck or you really need it. That will give it time to engage and you will have momentum to help you out.

If you are hearing a clank or other noise coming from the front end then you may have a IWE issue.

Thanks for the help and link to the video. I'm going to bring the truck in tomorrow and have them diagnose it. I'll have them fix it if it's covered under warranty.
I have noticed that you need to shift into 4 wheel ahead of time when you are still rolling and always do this. This time it will not go into 4x4 no matter what.
It gave me trouble a couple times that I used it but wasn't consistent enough for me to bring in and show a tech the issue. Now that I'm just out of my comprehensive 1yr warranty it crapped out!
I do love the truck, love how it drives and the interior is great. I am a little concerned with the trouble I've already had on a truck that I'm paying $650 a month on. The last couple issues were taken care of under warranty without a problem and the dealership that I have it serviced at has been great so I'm optimistic that they will help me out.

What's the current mileage on your truck? Please let me know how the dealer trip went; I'll research any additional options, if necessary.

I brought it to the dealership. They said it was a broken axle and it is covered under warranty. They were very helpful and had it fixed the morning after I dropped it off.
