Default 5.0 tick

IMG_0036.MOV

I just purchased a XLT built November of 14' with 8700 miles about 2 months ago, and it has developed a very noticeable tick (not a knock) when fully warmed up (now at 10k miles) from the passenger side wheel well. I took her to the dealership a few weeks ago only to be told it was normal 5.0 noises, but I can hear it 20ft away which seems not normal to me. I have no power loss and truck is running normal, pulls the hell out of my 6k camper with 11mpg. The only thing I have done to the truck is an oil change at 9k with Mobile1 5w20 and a motorcraft filter, even thought the oil looked good on dipstick. Also, I used a mechanic's stethoscope and cannot pinpoint the tick other than injectors firing, no oil loss, and very quiet on startup. What do you guys think after watching my video?

Ok First.........Yep, that is the 5.0l tick alright. Sounds precisely like mine.
No loss in power...check
No loss of mpg...check
all systems normal...check.

My God, I still don't know anything about that tick other than she likes to make her noise when she's nice and warm. I haven't read a single thing anywhere (and I've been looking hard with my face and everything) to tell me what causes this.
Second...Could this be normal?
Could anything that sounds like that be normal, come on, no way right, and yet...it doesn't affect a thing other than being really damn annoying, like a that popcorn piece that gets caught in your teeth and does nothing but drive you crazy.

Anyway, thanks for the video, it's another confirmation for me at least about the tick, and if you find out anything definitive be sure to let us know. Good luck!

Nasdarovia!

Mine is a bit louder than that plus using a bit of oil.
Some days it worries me,some days I turn the radio up

I let the service manager listen to my video and he also agreed the tick is not normal, and seems to think it is the cam phasers. I am not a certified ford mechanic but I thought the phasers where in the front of the motor, not the back where the noise is coming from. So she has another appointment set for Tuesday, and I was assured my truck will not be coming back with a "its normal 5.0 noise diagnostic."

I have a 2102 5.0L that matches the exact symptoms and sounds. Same deal, no loss of power, no CEL, no oil consumption, etc. Engine is good to go. I did have it checked a couple of months ago since I'm still under a powertrain warranty, the service advisor said it was a normal 5.0 engine sound.

Just food for thought, my wifes 2011 Ford Edge 3.5 (non-turbo) has about the same sound when warm....no probs at all either. Just noisy engines in that year range, let's hope.

Yep, mine does it too, but not all the time, drivers side.
I really notice it in a drive through McD's.
I chalk it up to the ultra thin oil.
5W20
30K miles.

Well, as I figured the words from the service manager were as good as fools gold. I got the "its and injector tick" and "normal 5.0 noise", and when I asked which injector so I can replace it, my answer was "it doesn't matter." So next oil change I might try 5w30, get louder exhaust, and ride her till the end.

Funny thing, as I was leaving there was a also mechanic leaving and I asked him to watch my video. He said "wow, you should get that checked out, that seems louder than normal." So I politely informed him it was just here for that noise, he kind of chuckled and recommended I take it somewhere else for another opinion.

I have a 2011 and it does this every once in awhile... there are trucks on here with 280K+ miles that the owner says had the same tick since 50K miles... rumors of oblong cylinder hole but seems to be ok.
