Well I’m gonna guess that I have maybe another month and battery # 4 will be dead in this truck….

So usually when I shut the truck off it drops to 12.7-12.8 V after it sits for 5 minutes or so, that past 3-4 weeks its been down to 12.3-12.4 after 5 minutes. So today at lunch I drive around for 30 minutes, park it to eat my lunch and when I shut it down it says 12.2V, after about 5 minutes it drops to 12.1V and the radio shuts off, no BMS message, just a blank LCD dash display and a blank radio display???

HHmm that’s odd, I turn the key to ”run” and the radio fires back up, my phone hooks back up via Bluetooth, I turn the key back off and it still sits at 12.1V and the radio stays on for the next 10 minutes while I finished my lunch no BMS message.

Honestly I think the BMS system is useless, obviously the truck is losing voltage over the past 2 months but the radio still stays going even though I’m down to 12.1V now.. hell I have had times where I got the BMS warning and it had 12.7V in it.

12.6 is where I get my message.

I got fed up with the message so I removed the battery cable from inside the current sensor ring. Been a month now and doesn't seem to be any side effects.

Got home from my 1000 miles trip after fully charging the battery. Got the message half way through the trip. Just put the charger back on and it said 65%. Final stop was when I filled up with gas about 150 miles from home.

There's a huge leak obviously and or something is preventing the alternator from fully charging the battery. For the life of me I don't know why there's no am meter in these trucks. But there is 2 ways to check the trans. temp.

Mine charges at 14.5-14.7V any time it is running, hell I can turn on every electrical thing in the truck and it will drop for maybe a second so as you turn all the stuff on then right back up to 14.4 range. the alternator seems to be sufficient enough to power everything and keep the battery at the range it should be while running.

I have never hooked up my battery charger after driving though to see how "full "the charger thinks the battery is. I might have to try that some time just for kicks

I'm still waiting to see how Conger's works out, I'm positive I won't get anywhere with them until there is a fix, we use the same dealer.

I am, however, concerned that my battery might need to be replaced before there is a fix, it is sounding awfully weak when starting the truck lately.

I haven't done this yet either. What I did was drive non stop for 150 miles then it sat overnight. The assumption was the miles was enough to top off the battery, so leaving it overnight I could determine if there's a leak. I guess for confirmation I need the starting point like you're suggesting.

So i did a bunch of driving yesterday once i got home i let the truck sit 30 min or so, it was at 12.5v i think. anyway i pulled out the charger and it said it was 85% charged? it charged for almost 3 hours at 2amps to get back to 99%. i let it sit over night and its reading at 12.7v this am??

Also i took my motorcycle for a ride yesterday, got home started it up 3 more times as i was checking some things and for grins i put the charger on that and it said 95% charged.

The messed up part is i can go in my basement and put my charger on my boat batteries that have been sitting for 3 months and they will show over 90% charge when i hook them up.

What does this all mean, who knows!

My latest experience with "Battery Saver".

For the past week its been fine. I can turn off the truck and the radio plays fine. In the last week or so, the temperature here has gone up quite a bit. It appears to me that my problem seems to be temperature related. Dunno if the air temp sensor is tied in with the charging system in any way, so if the temp goes down the system shuts down to 'save' battery?????? I havent charged my battery. I havent tested it. I was just waiting for it to die are call roadside. Never did die. And now all seems to be fine..... for the time being anyway

Just my $0.02...

If this has already been mentioned, sorry, I haven't read every post in this thread. But if it has been mentioned, maybe more than me are thinking similarly...
