Default Quote for Painting Parts

Figured I would post these as I was curious what you guys thought about the pricing. I don't have any experience in this but the door handle painting alone seems extremely high.

My idea is to turn my 2010 F150 XLT SCrew w/ Chrome Package into mirroring the looks of an FX2/FX4(PTM bumpers/door handles with a black grille).

The other idea was this render my uncle made up for me: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/s016k.png/ - The render above is blacked out bumpers with blacked out wheels and door handles.

http://imageshack.us/a/img690/3594/img3205vw.jpg - Picture I took once I bought my truck two years ago but gives you an idea of what it looks like if you don't know.

Copy and pasted from my email:

"Here is the breakdown:

Bumpers: $950 (includes removal of chrome bumpers, paint, and re-installation. Does not include paint time of texured plastic pieces. If you wanted to paint those it would be extra)
Grille: $495 (includes removal of grille, paint work, and re-installation)
Handles: $1000 (includes removal of handles and black handle base, removing texture of handle base and painting all pieces, then re-installation)

Discount of $100 if you combine all 3."

Another shop gave me this quote:

"To have the chrome shop strip the bumpers runs about $120 each. That would be a total cost of $350 for each bumper or $700 for both. Unfortunately, I could not open the photos that you attached and I'm not sure what PTM is; However, if you are looking to change the handles and grille to flat black, I would suggest having them powder coated and that would cost about $750. Let me know if there is anything else that you would like or have a question about."

Just curious to see what you guys think.

X2 there is a ton of info on this. You could probably do everything you want for well under $100.00

I paint for a living. Those prices are weird. Something is wrong here.

$1000 to paint the handles...but $950 for the bumpers? How is it less money for the bumpers? Its more paint materials, and more R+I time.

$495 for the grille? Wow...we charge $100 at my place.

Maybe they were thinking ATM and weren't interested.

Haha! Probably...

And yeah, OP, if you're dead set on getting it all professionally done, keep looking.

Thanks for the input guys. For the first two posts, I have looked into Plastidipping but I was hoping to see if I could afford a professional paint job as that will last the longest and produce the best look.

I'm driving to Massachusetts... it should only take me 3-4 days. =P

That is the information I was looking for though. It seemed like both shops were charging a lot, and the quote for the door handles alone made me want to send an email questioning their pricing and how they came up with $200 a handle when they are charging less for both bumpers.

Lastly, the grille didn't seem horrible, but when I thought about it a little more, I could easily buy an FX2 or FX4 6-bar grille from the 2009-2012 for less and sell my current grille to make up some of the cost.

I will go ahead and keep looking. I live in San Diego so I should hopefully be able to find 3-4 more shops, at least, to give me quotes. I went with those two first as they had good reviews from Yelp and Google but even if they had perfect ratings, $200 per door handle is extremely excessive.

Thanks again guys.

You dont need to strip the bumpers.. but if you're one of those old school cats that dont trust PPG and House of Kolors chrome adhesion products, strip em.

And that is hella expensive. You should definitely have another shop give you a quote.
