Default Questions Regarding Extang Solid Fold

Anyone know if the truck can be driven with the tonneau partially opened? Can the tailgate be closed with the tonneau already closed? Do you have to open the tonneau before you can open the tailgate?

If you got a great deal on your Extang Solid Fold, would you mind PM'ing me where you got it?

And if you think you have a tonneau better than the Solid Fold, could you try to sell me on how yours is better (I'm in the market and so far it looks like the Solid Fold will fit my needs the best).

Thank you!

Though the Extang website says the Solid Fold part # 56410 is for the reg cab and supercab 6.5 ft box, I am nearly positive that this will fit the Supercrew with the same length box. Just give them a call, they will advise.
In response to your questions, the tonneau can be folded forward and secured for travel. It is secured by a couple of straps with hasps on them. To close it, you fold it out flat, then secure a couple of connectors to the underside of the bedrails, then close the tailgate. here is a link http://www.extang.com/pdf/install/01...ld-Install.pdf

This unit is the cat's a**. Very secure and solid, I am 225lbs and I am sure i could jump on it( though I haven't) Also is pretty water tight.

I own the Extang Solid Fold and have it on my 09 SuperCrew 6.5 bed.

It's an amazing cover - very convenient on and off.

I paid $800 CDN at Hitch City.

Turns out that I can get either the BakFlip HD (with the special end caps that allow the tailgate to be opened / closed without opening the tonneau) or the Extang Solid Fold for $675 (shipped). Both units are the same price.

Which do you think is a better product?

If you have either, how have they help up over time?

After looking at both, I went with the (more expensive) Bakflip.

The Extang, and others like it, sit about 1" above the bed rails, the Bakflip sits flush with the rails. I liked that look.

The Bakflip will open all the way up to the cab so you can access the full box without removing the cover. I think the Extang can be folded to the last 1.5', then needs to be removed for full box access. The Bakflip has 2 arms that can be used to hold the cover in the open position while moving. I am not sure if the Extang has that "feature".

I also liked that the Bakflip was metal (aluminum) vs the pleather with the Extang, meaning more security to what I may have in there which is usually hockey equipment and/or luggage and/or case of beer. The vinyl can be cut, the metal damaged too I suppose, but not as easily.

Its a personal choice, I went with the BakFlip.

The Extang Solid Fold is made of a lightweight aluminum alloy, not vinyl. I believe the Bak Flip is made of a composite material.
