Solid advice, Rohanda. I will definitely seek out some more info from you when I decide to do this soon.

The body techs typically do all the disassembling. They seem to have no issues, and never break anything, but they have done tons of them. There was a video floating around on here about a month ago. Guy made it look easy

Thanks @mbullock, I forgot to mention the difference in the paint. The guy that did mine went through several mixings to get the correct match.

Well guys, I'm **** out of luck right now. I called 3 paint shops in my area and they all basically told me that they won't paint it because the paint won't stick well and will start to chip over time. I've heard this is kinda BS, but I wasn't gonna argue with these guys who have been in the business for 40 years. I then called my local dealership and talked to a guy in parts who basically told me the same thing. Unfortunately, you can't just order the PTM surround, just the entire grill assembly which is about $800. I was really looking forward to this...Thanks for the help though.

Yeah the older painters sometimes have very closed minds on this topic. I work with a few like that.

I've painted many chrome pieces. It's why I made this thread

Perhaps you can find someone selling a grill with the surround already painted. That's what I did but I took it a step further and disassembled my grill completely so I could black out the grill body behind the bars, then used the painted surround for this result.

How about I just ship you the part and you paint it for me?

Problem is that mine is green gem metallic...pretty hard to find. It's AMAZING how much better the front end of your truck looks after doing yours. wow

If you can't find a painter, keep looking on eBay for the green surround, regardless of the insert as long as it can be separated from the surround. If you find it, we can further discuss how to swap out the inserts.

A green gem surround is gonna be pretty hard to find IMO. Keep asking around and eventually you will find someone to paint it for you. It looks much better IMO
