Nah, pay it, remove it and move on. There are two reasons for tint restrictions, driver safety since your view is diminished from the tint and law enforcement safety so they can see in your vehicle when they stop you.

I had the exact same thing happen to me some years back. I purchased the truck with the tint already on, I had no idea there was such a law on window tint. Just take off the tint and go to court and they will drop the ticket. I have seen many cars and truck with illegal tint, why I got pulled over and not them who knows. I also have a clean record. The front windows do come with some tint on them from the factory. Any additional tint on the front windows makes them illegal. Why some cop having a bad day picks you or I out of the crowd is a mystery.

In order to go to court I have to pay the fine plus $8. So I'd be hoping they refund me the fine after I got it taken off... The cop said the judge will do that alot.

Cops must be getting bored cause my son was at high school and they seen a state police ride thur where the kids park and that afternoon a couple kids got pulled over for window tint. I laughed and said that is what they are telling their parents. Well 2 days later my son hands me a paper that he had been pulled over for window tint. For a cop to catch you going down the road is crazy but pulling into a high school and checking the parking lot is terrible. I am sure there is something worse going on in that state for him to be checking on.

Take it off, bring a letter from the dealer, and you should be good in court. You might try writing the court and sending them the proof ahead of time to see if they will just clear it that way, or dropping the paperwork off in person.

That sucks. I know I will get pulled over for my tint sooner or later. I moved provinces where I was allowed tint to a new one where I'm pretty sure I can't have it. Passed provincial safety though, so it can't be that big a deal.

To the OP: The way your truck left the factory was legal. Changing the tint on the front side windows or windshield is illegal MOST places in the U.S. End of story. Remove the tint, or continue to get tickets- your choice.

Remove it a move on man, I wouldn't even bother with Court, that can turn into a whole day of waiting. Might not even be worth the missed time at work, If you make more the the fine a day, just pay it and move on and remove it to avoid more.

Iowa has the same (70%) tint law as OP.

I bought my last vehicle used and it had illegal tint when I got it. I got pulled over 1 time in 130k miles / 6 years. I paid the fine but didn't remove the tint (considered it my tint tax) and moved on.

In Iowa, and I'd assume most places, the ticket is simply an equipment violation and does not affect your driving record (not a moving violation) or insurance. The bigger issue, though, is that it gives officers a legitimate reason to stop you to check for other violations (OWI, etc.) that they MAY NOT have otherwise had (read driving home at 2 am - even if you're sober, they may stop you for tint just to check your sobriety).

For what it's worth, based only getting stopped once in my prior vehicle, I tinted my truck when I got it.

Good luck with your decision.
