I plan on doing mine at some point, but just haven't had the time to get to it. Fortunately, I've been too busy at work, and side work, to do much of anything else. Gotta make some extra money when the gettin's good ...

Unless I'm misunderstanding you ... you do NOT have to actually open up the light assemblies. You just remove the two screws that hold each assembly in (between the tailgate sides and bed sides), pull the light out of the body, disconnect the wiring harnesses, and then paint the inside of the outer edge of the lights. Let it dry, then put the light assembly back into the truck.

I am looking to open the tail lights and then paint the chrome parts Blue Flame Metallic to match the truck, and possibly add extra LEDs to it. Similar to what this guy did:

i hear ya ... I'm not one to open up factory-sealed stuff like lighting assemblies. I also am not really a fan of the LED stuff in the lights. I think they are fine like they are, with one small exception - I'd like the white reverse lights to be brighter - IE: actually light up the stuff behind you so you can see what you're doing.
I'm always amazed at how most every vehicle in existence - from the factory - has such horrible reverse lighting.
I'll probably - eventually - put some Rigid cubes in my rear bumper and do the relay thing where they come on when the reverse lights come on ... and possibly have an override switch to turn them on even when not in reverse.

hmmmm. I miss understood what you were trying to do as well. I have an extra set of chrome tail lights I could mess around with... and if I messed it up.. not a big deal.

A simple search would've brought you to this thread, instead of creating a whole new topic for what's already there.....

May not be exactly what you are looking to do, but pretty ambitious regardless!

Lots of us have added aux lighting when in reverse. I love mine that I put in under the bumper.
