i mean it comes down to what you want in your truck. are you ok with 5.0 power levels and want the v8 rumble? go 5.0.
want more power? the eco is a good choice.
want more power but gotta have the v8 rumble? go 6.2 pick the engine that best fits what you want and don't worry about the rest so much.
I don't plan on towing anything so that really is out of the question and I plan on lifting it so the MPG "gain" from the EB is out of the question as well. I've heard the EB has great power though, but am worried that lifting it will stress out the turbo and personally think that they sound like a ricer with exhausts on them Overall I would like a good solid engine that will last me and not be too problematic. I know that all engines will have there flaws, but I don't want to be fixing something every other month because something decides to pop up.

I've got a 3.5 TT crewcab with a 6" lift and 35s. I've got a bullydog tune and a solo-performance exhaust and I wouldn't have my truck any other way. I honestly think it's the closest you can get to a diesel... The power without the tuner on the larger tires is more than enough to roll around comfortably.. With the tuner the power is just pure awesome and I love driving it around.
I drive with a lead foot and get about 11 or so mpg but I didn't buy a truck for the mileage so that's that. Hope this helps.

I'm coming from a 2004 5.4L so I had the dreaded spark plug issue and the cam phaser issue. Had 6/8 plugs break on me. I've been told that the newer 5.4's even have plug issues. Apparently the plugs are blowing out of the cylinders?
I think a lot of the problems with the EB have been greatly overstated and blown out of proportion. I have one of the very early production EBs that has never had any of the updates for the CAC. I live in AR where high humidity is a way of life. I have only had the water in the CAC one time in 55,000. The truck has only been back to the dealership once and that was only to get the latest ECM updates. I just changed the spark plugs because I went with custom tunes and to avoid any issues I went ahead and replaced them and gapped them per the latest specs.

A lot of the "problems" with the EB can be traced back to the driver. If you're on and off the gas pedal a lot your mileage will suck. If you get one, set the display to the instant mileage and watch just how much hitting the skinny pedal makes the mileage go down. Once you figure out how to stop this you will get good mileage.

The only thing that kills the EB for me is the exhaust. I don't think an aftermarket exhaust would even help because I have yet to find one I have liked.

I too hated the exhaust, until I did this to mine...Sounds absolutely amazing, more than pleased with the setup. It's a custom true dual setup. With new pipes and tips from a shelby F150 Raptor. Flopro max muffler.

This is a different system, but this is exactly what mine sounds like while driving.

I'm sorry, but nothing about that sounds good to me. Makes me feel like I should be driving a honda. To each there own though.

I have a 2012 ecoboost, 6" lift with 35x12.5x20" tires. 3.73 rear end, stock tuned, stock exhaust. I considered getting a tuner but never have. This thing has plenty of power and will still break the big tires loose on demand. My lifetime average milage is 15.1 with just under 29,000 on the truck so far. I have had it almost exactly a year. No problems whatsoever.

Fuugz, I remember going back and forth on 04-08 forum. Anyways I have a 5.0 w/6speed now and the difference from the 5.4 w/4speed is just to hard to put into words. All smiles every time I step on it.
Now the 5.4 w/6speed is an all together different performing engine. The 6 speed really wakes the 5.4 up.
If you want that v8 rumble either of those combos won't disappoint.
Then again there is the 6.2. No convincing necessary.

5.0 - Traditional V8 engine, well balanced all around

Ecoboost - Overall better in towing. Faster off the line. Very quiet for a truck. Remove MPG potential from get go since there is little if any. Many are concerned with longevity of the turbos.

6.2 - Guzzler. Huge price premium. Much harder to find outside of the Raptor. Being phased out for the 2015.
