Mudweiser: I don't think anyone is trying to be nasty or judgmental, but based on the facts supplied by YOU, most of us don't see it as a wise decision.

You came looking for input and you got it.

I think we all wish you the best and you are correct, only you know what you have stuffed in the mattress. In the end, only you know what is right for you and yours!

Well the folks are right. They are just trying to help. Somebody kind of took my idea a step further. Now knowing his credit cards are tapped out he just needs to trade down to a 2003/2004 Yukon. If that's what he really wants. OR stay with what he has and focus on paying down bills. Like I said I have a 2001 Yukon and Love it. No, it's no Ford F-150 but if I were broke and that's all I could afford I would be OK with it. For his sake I hope he just sticks with what he has and not make one move. His truck is great and he can make it work. If not trade down. Yes, this bites but it really puts things into perspective. I have both the Yukon and the F-150 and I am perfectly happy! Can't have the cake and eat it two. In other words I want a 2013 Yukon and 2013 F-150 but that isn't happening. Improvise for the best outcome.

Perhaps a quick solution would be for you to figure out a way to make some extra cash. For example extra shifts at work, or a part-time second job. A few hundred $$$ per month makes a difference. And would allow you to pay off those cards and afterwards you would perhaps be better suited to make a decision on your vehicle situation. Im confused about the amount owed and what your trade in value is, if its financialy positive to trade in, I would go ahead, however a yukon will not be positive to your bank account ( fuel, upkeep, initial purchase priced new or used)

I have to agree I don't think the Yukon would be a wise choice in your situation if your doing it to "save" money. However if your wanting the Yukon just as a change from the f150, go for it if you can afford it. I like the Yukon there a nice vehicle for what they are.

Get a better tonneau or cap.

Also if you are using credit cards for loans, you are doing it very wrong. Maybe you should do some research about personal finance, because it sounds like you are on a one way path to bad money times ahead.

I always run by the philosophy, if I don't have the cash in the bank to pay it off, don't borrow it (minus your house).

Something else to consider... Since you have the truck and it sounds like you may owe less than it's worth? If that's so, refinance the truck and see if you can take some of the equity out of that to get you a good cap or cover. That would save you a lot of money. It may also reduce your monthly payment so you can have more cash on hand to use to pay down your cards faster or for whatever you decide to do with it. I too wish you the best. Just a suggestion

Is it even possible to buy a vehicle with maxed out credit cards? I had $800 owing on my only card and the bank denied me for a loan on my truck. So I had to pay it off and show them a credit card statement. Then I was approved.

Depends on debt to income ratio and credit history. Not knowing what his is, that's why I'd check into refinancing. It may be a better option

Hey Mud- Fellow Mountaineer from Jackson County. I'm not going to get into the income / debt debate. That's really your business. That said, I have the luxury of having both the F150 and wife's 08 Expedition. It is an Eddie Bauer with heavy tow, power running boards, captains chairs, DVD, heated and cooled seats, etc etc etc. My wife entertained a Yukon for all of 30 seconds. She was wooed by the cool body style. Once she sat in it she wasn't convinced. The deal breaker was the non fold down third row. She seen that and I quote " that's just stupid. The Expeditions have a power fold, why doesn't everyone else?" I just laughed and we went Expedition hunting. Now, it sounds like I am trying to convince you for an Expy. Im not. You like what you like. My only other comparable experience with a Yukon was last summer. My buddies family and mine went to Myrtle Beach. We didn't have the Expy yet so we took my F150. They have a Yukon (08) with 5.3, loaded up, etc. With a family of 4, he had to use a hitch haul as it was packed full. I have a tri fold tonneau (doesn't leak) and loaded the bed down and slapped some portable DVD players in the truck. Away we went. We didn't really play the mileage game during the trip down. We were set to leave on a Sunday and the Friday before, we found out the derecho hit back home and both of our houses were without electric (He is from New Martinsville, 2 hrs north of Charleston). Anyway, we were concerned about getting gas on the way home as we heard from inbound travelers that north of the VA border, all lights were out. I think Myrtle is about 480 miles from my house. Anyway, we decided to leave from Myrtle Saturday evening. He went out Saturday morning to buy a generator in Myrtle (no chance of finding one back home). We loaded up and he asked if I could haul his third row seats as he had no room. My wife snickered and said under her breath "if he had an EXPY, he'd have room". I digress. So, we set out for home (I was lead) and our plan was to get as far north as possible to ensure we could find gas that could get him home. So, we both reset our fuel mileage things and set out. I drove the speed limit and we stopped at the VA border. He got out of his Yukon and came straight to my truck to see the fuel mileage. He had a smirk. I started pumping gas and heard a "no freaking way". As I stood there filling up the tank he looked and shook his head and I asked how we did. He said he thought he had the F150 covered as his Yukon showed 19.8 mpg. I asked what the truck ended up with (I hadn't looked yet) and he said 21.9. I had to see for myself. Of course I had to take a jab at the cylinder deactivation and said all 8 of mine fire every stroke and still beat the 5.3. Last test was coming out of a toll booth on the WV turnpike. We came out of different booths at the same time so he had to see. Needless to say, what he seen was taillights. We still laugh about that trip. So, the moral of this long winded story is there are disadvantages to the Yukon. The F150 has waaay more room in the back seat as any SUV I have come across except for an Excursion. My experience is you will not gain any fuel mileage advantage. But, in the end, if you truly want it and can swing it, go get it. But if the only issue is a leaking tonneau, that is a very cheap thing to fix. Again, mine hasn't leaked. ever. I have a spray in bedliner and when I installed the cover I noticed at the front of the bed where the tonneau runs across behind the cab, the gap was too large for the foam that came with the tonneau. So, I took some of the foam pipe wrap and put it across that area and it seals perfectly. If that is your leak, that will fix it for about $3. Good luck.

Best suggestion I've heard yet, unless you really just want to get rid of your truck and get into an SUV.
