Default Programmers worth it?

I have a 2012 f 150 with a 3.7 and I'm contemplating getting a hyper tech programmer. Anyone have one? Was it worth the cost? I can't do the 5 star tune as I live in Canada, and if rather deal with something closer to home. Tia

Is there a reason us Canadians cannot get 5 star tunes?

I'm debating it too. I have 3.7 2014 screw with 4" lift and bigger tires/wheels. Thing that's throwing me a curve ball though is the dyno results shown on the 5* website.

Because I want something closer to home, if there an an issue, I don't want to have to wait for shipping.

You don't want a hypertech, all you will ever have is the base tunes that they give you with little to no customization. Get the SCT X4, and then get some custom e-mail tunes. 5* MPT or Unleashed. 5* Is located in SC there not local to me either but they do have good support all you have to do is call them. If you have an issue with a tune let them know about it and they will revise it.

If you buy the tuner from one of those companies it will come with Tunes already programmed on it (depending on how much you want to pay for how many tunes they offer), However I am sure you can buy an SCT X4 somewhere local to you.

Even if you don't buy e-mail tunes, at least with the X4 you always have the option of doing so in the future.

That's a lame excuse. Get the sct and the 5* tunes are emailed to you. Tons of people use that combo with no I'll effects.

Do it right the first time and get the SCT x4 with custom tunes from 5 star, mpt etc. 5 star offers there package deal with 3 custom tunes and the device. The canned tunes like Hypertech, Superchips, and others are nowhere near as good as getting the email tunes from the suggested tuners. But when it comes down to it do whatever you want to do and as long as it makes you happy then in the end that's all that matters.

The tunes you get that come on the handheld tuners are "canned" tunes and are weak compared to the custom tunes you can get emailed to you. I've tried canned and custom and the custom tunes make the canned tunes seem like stock. I have the SCT iTSX Bluetooth tuner and use my ipad or phone to tune my truck. It's nice.
