Default Power steering assist fault

I know this has been covered before as I read a few of the threads here. I have a '13 FX4 that has been sitting in my garage for two weeks waiting for CV boots to be replaced. I went to move it and BAM no steering.

This is obviously a known issue as there have been recalls on others years/models. Is this something that ford will take care of our do I need to get an attorney involved. I really hate to pay for defective factory parts. If it's something that breaks from abuse that's on me.

The truck only has 36,000 miles.

Whats the process? Any aftermarket solutions?

Slide under the truck and find the electrical connectors on the rack, disconnect and check for pushed out pins or corrosion, repair any that you see.

I did check that the connections were tight as I didn't have a lot of room. I'll make some more and check, thanks.

Connections are fine. I was thinking worst case replace it myself since I can find them online for about $1000 but the manual is telling me 2011+ can't be done that way because they require a proprietary scan tool to program.

That sucks. I have the CPO 7/100k but it doesn't look like steering is covered. I'll call them anyway to see. I mean there have been A LOT of issues with the steering on other years and/or makes. Seems like Ford should do something.

Did you just look at it or disconnect them and look at the terminal pins? Just because it looks/feels tight does not make them a non issue.

unplugged and looked Took a minute to figure out that you need to move the little red part on the plug to take it off.

Disconnect the battery for no less than 15 mins, then try to drive.

When you guys and the manual says that you need to "program" after replacement does that really mean program, or does that mean clear codes? Cause I know guys with the expensive snap on type scan tools that can clear codes. Reason I ask is I have aftermarket steering components and not sure Ford would even work on it.

As you can see in the pic I have different rods, clevis and heims.
