Guys, just to start off Im new to the site but i have been a ford guy for a long time. Anyways I have a few questions about some trucks I am looking at purchasing right now. I have heard a lot of mixed reviews on the ecoboost motor in these trucks. I currently have a 14 5.0 GT which has been great but I'm wondering if I get a truck if the 5.0 is the better choice over the ecoboost. What kind of mileage are you guys seeing towing/ not towing and how is the longevity of these motors compared to your normal gas V8? I know every motor has its issues but is all the loss of power and miss fire issues of the ecoboost something I should stay away from?

I have the 5.0 and I average 14.9. The guy across the street has the ecoboost. When he starts it up and drives by it doesn't even sound like a truck. A truck needs a rumble like a v8.

They are pretty close in empty fuel mileage, 19 hiway and 15 city seems to be the norm round here. Its down low power where the ecoboost has the advantage for towing. Avg towing for the ecoboost with a avg sized mobile trailer seems to be in the 8-12 mpg (with my 3500 lb pop up I get 14-15) range depending on headwind and terrain.

V8 sound isn't everything. I have a Solo Performance Dual Mach X exhaust and it sounds great when you hit the skinny pedal, nice and calm otherwise. (not always angry).

Few guys over at the EB specific forum have over 200K miles on their EB's with zero hiccups. I'd buy new unless you can see maint records etc. I bought mine used a 2011 @38k KM's and by the time I hit 50K KM's I've had the phaser rattle at startup for the last 20K. Doesn't happen to all of them hit or miss as is the Major engine knocking and oblong cylinders in the earlier 5.0.

I live in Florida so pretty flat . I have a 2014 5.0 screw with 18in tires a 3.55 gears and avg 19.6 on the hwy running in the 70-75mph bracket . I also have a Peragon truck bed cover which has helped. Before it I has running mid 18's mpg

Both good a reliable. The 5.0 has its own issues but these are rare just like the Eco issues.

5.0 gets you v8 sound but Eco had more power and better performance. 5.0 still moves the truck well.

With a tune the Eco will leave the 5.0 in the dust. With a supercharger the 5.0 will leave a tuned Eco in the dust...

I have owned f150s with both the 5.0 and the eco. I do miss the sound of the v8, but I have zero complaints with the eco, and I've come to love the sound of those turbos spooling up.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with either one.

Does tuning the ecoboost offer the improved fuel milage similar the improvements of a tuned diesel?
