I'm thinking the same thing. The max the Sony sub can handle is 120W, while the Pioneer can handle up to 600W. My best guess is the Sony amp isn't really enough to properly drive the Pioneer sub. Has anybody replaced/added an amp to help drive the Pioneer sub?

Just finished installing and setting up mine today. WOW. the difference is night and day. I can now hear the lows as well as the highs and mids. And it thumps quite well, nowhere near the Shaker 1000 in my Mustang, but quite decent for a 200W 10" sub.

I decided to give it a try and ordered the Pioneer TS-SW2002D2 and poly-fil.

For the guys that installed the Pioneer, did you install the wiring parallel or series? Since this sub is dual voice coil, wasn't sure which way would get the best results with the factory amp.

Pretty sure it's neither. I'm almost positive the Factory sub is dual voice coil too. So one set of leads to one side of the pioneer and one to the other.

Guys, vendor on here has the whole upgrade system (not for the Sony stereos) for $450 or just the subwoofer for $300. Wish I would have seen this before I ordered. Oh well, I only paid $25 more. Here is the thread:

Did you ever install the pioneer?

I've been watching for a reply from a knowledgeable audiophile with respect to question I asked back in post #43, i.e., whether the subject Pioneer needs more power to drive for similar volume output as OEM. My hearing is lousy but even with that limitation, I usually benefit from overall improvements in speaker upgrades. Build quality of the Pioneer seems superior to the OEM item but just not certain if it is being adequately driven at "normal" listening volumes?

I replaced the OEM speakers in my 99 Ranger after I replaced the stock radio with Pioneer head unit and it actually made the the sound system worse because the heat unit by itself couldn't put out enough power to drive the upgrade speakers. Pretty sure we're running into the same issue here with the upgraded Pioneer subwoofer.
I have an old 300W Jensen amp that I'm thinking about adding between the factory amp and the Pioneer but I'm not sure how everything will handle it or hold up over all. Anyone have any ideas how this would work?

I did...
I tried different wiring variations with and without poly fill and was disappointed.
Planning to take the plunge and upgrade the entire system...
