load range of tires matters, if they are D or E and tread type will all affect mileage. AT and MT tires have more rolling resistance. little things all add to lost mileage, even a leveling kit. i think even with heavier tires and level shoud be around 16 mpg. check speedometer against a GPS unit to see if it is off. you did not mention your mileage, also go fully synthetic in your engine.

That was mostly back and state roads. Very little highway. Although slowing down to 65 will be a big help. These trucks are like big boxes.

And if you are going to clean your MAF, they make MAF cleaner. Any parts store should have it.

Royderjd - i wouldnt use anything super harsh like carb cleaner but i dont think some brake clean wouldnt hurt it make sure it drys before you put it back in and start your truck.
Rather ... Use cleaner made specifically for cleaning electrical contacts -OR- specifically intended for MAF sensors

OP... I have an 09' 5.4, I am leveled with 50,000 miles on the clock. I drive with a heavy foot no doubt about it, and my truck says 12.8-13.2 (lucky to see 13.2btw).

It's the nature of the beast.. I don't hear of too many 5.4's getting too much better to be honest.

My '02 Supercrew 5.4 with 3.55 limited slip two wheel drive (or whatever it has that's some kind of positrac differential) gets 18 - 18.4 highway mpg doing 70 - 75. Loaded down pretty good. I kind of think our trucks, if about stock, should get 18 mpg highway. Do some checking on ye truck and let us know what's causing low mileage.

See and that sounds closer to something pretty normal for a truck. i mean granted mines 4x4, but i think 16MPG highway would be in the range i should get.

check your front actuators, may not be releasing. jack the frontend up, both tires off the ground and start engine in 2wd. spin the front wheels and see if your front driveshaft is turning, could be the culprit.

The aspect ratio doesn't determine the width of the tire that is the first number. So if both tires are 275s then they are the same width. The difference is the 275/65 is 2" taller than the 275/55.
