Just to be contrary!

I do NOT get better mpg in 5th gear vs 6th. 6th is always better cruising. My mpg also did NOT improve as it got more miles.

This is 16000 miles of fillup records. There are about 5 fills not logged. It is a2012 scab 4x4. The mpg on these trucks is all over the place depending on driver and terrain.

Well i still have some investigating to do. I'm going to switch back and forth a few days from 5th and 6th and see what the exact difference is.

well I have 41k miles on my 2011 LIFTED Lariat eco. I get about 7-19mpg. depends on how I drive, what I'm pulling or hauling, and how fast I'm going. 55mph I can get close to 20mpg, now 80mph on the interstate I get 10-12mpg. pulling my horse trailer or gooseneck pulling close to 10k pounds I get 6-7mpg. Bottom line is I don't REALLY care what its getting as long as it does what I want it to, and it does, ad makes it to the next gas station when I need fuel. If you are thirsty, you drink!!!! If you are working and sweating you drink more!!! LOL Feed it and drive it

I think he's right. In 6th, the truck feels like its struggling.

Try it next time running 60/65 on the highway. The rpms go up 200-300 but the instant readout improves.

I was skeptical too cause its not logical to drop a gear and get better results.
Your sales man is a moron. I don't care what gear you have. You increase the RPMS, you are now into boost. When you are into boost the truck is going to use more fuel. Temperature, Humidity, quality of gas, elevation, all these affect gas mileage. Run a full tank through and see what your calculated miles are.

My FX4 5.0 3.55 has around 1400 mi so far and I'm averaging 16.5 in town, little to no highway driving. The only real highway driving I've done was a 90 mile round trip and I average 22.2 mpg. I'm probably taking it on a longer trip for the Christmas holidays and should know then what it can really do on the highway!

17mpg average over 2800 miles total. 50 mile round trip daily almost all at 70. 5.0 with 3.73s 2wd screw. I get better at 65 but I get run over by traffic. Not bad considering same trip in similar 5.4 was around 13 mpg.
