Don't forget it's winter. Winter gas and colder Temps reduce mpg.

I got some great feedback. Thanks for the replies guys.
Do you think running with the heated seat will reduce MPG?
Im thinking maybe a draw on the alternator or something?
I had a Silverado that go about the same (14ish mpg). As it got a little older, I was pushing 20 mpg. I took a trip to Florida from New England and I was happy with impressed with how well it it sipped the gas considering it was poor her in New England (mostly town driving, a few 20 mile trips on highway). But that Silverado also used to drop to 4 cylinder mode when it didn't need all 8.
I love my F150, don't get me wrong. Always loved the 150, but just a bit bummed by the MPGs.

heated seats will not effect mpg.

I suggest a tune via the sct x4. Ive tried a few custom tuners and two stand out in improving mpg with the added benefit of more power and better drivability. ive seen up to a 2 mpg improvement over thousands of miles...

Also is you have a lift, over sized tires, etc your mpg will drop.

Will this number eventually go up as the engine breaks in?
Yes, I have punched the pedal a few times to feel the pep, but by no means am I a fast or aggressive driver.
I understand sometimes leaving things like the front window defroster on will burn gas, so I am careful about that. Do the heated seats affect the MPG?
I have enjoyed reading this site. You folks are always helpful.
lol, I'm lucky if I even reach 14mpg with city driving. Remember, you're driving a pick up truck, not a car.

I must be lucky. I live in the Ozarks, plenty of hills, and with 1/2 stop-n-go driving and 1/2 highway, I'm sitting right at 17mpg. On long drives I can easily hit 19/20mpg, and that's without trying too hard.

Because i never run over 65, i take away 6th gear and only drive up to 5th. 2000 rpms seems to be the mpg sweet spot for me.
Hope this is not a dumb question but how do you figure you get better mileage in 5th gear vs 6th... not logical...to me

My salesman who has been driving one fir a while told me that at 60/65 if you stay in 5th it will go into boost less often.

I think he's right. In 6th, the truck feels like its struggling.

Try it next time running 60/65 on the highway. The rpms go up 200-300 but the instant readout improves.

I was skeptical too cause its not logical to drop a gear and get better results.

The logical part comes to play when you hit the "sweet spot" for the engine performance. Outside of the sweet spot and you'll be dumping more fuel to maintain the same speed or wasting fuel just being rev happy. It's how the engines were designed. They have a golden range that will net you better mileage. The 5.0 is no different. I'm not talking dropping two gears and making it scream, but the eco will be under a heavier load in a higher gear.
