Poor MPG on 2014 Larait
I purchased a 2014 Ecoboost Larait last month. I have about 1500 miles on my truck. It seems the best MPG I can get is 14.4.
Will this number eventually go up as the engine breaks in?
Yes, I have punched the pedal a few times to feel the pep, but by no means am I a fast or aggressive driver.
I understand sometimes leaving things like the front window defroster on will burn gas, so I am careful about that. Do the heated seats affect the MPG?
I have enjoyed reading this site. You folks are always helpful.

YES!!! I had similar concerns and just stopped looking at 4000km until around the 18000km mark. I now can achieve 22mpg if I recall after the last fill up.
But I don't really care about MPG because it is a truck.
It's easy to get bad mpgs because the eco is so fun to drive lol.

Same numbers here. I have a 14 Lariat Screw 4x4 3.55 w/5.0. Has 2.5 in level and 275/70R18 tires. I carry nothing unnecessary, truck is empty. No load, flat hwy runnin at 70MPH (no head/tail wind) it gets 14.4. Same when I ease round town. Im easy on the throttle and baby it, and still nothing but 14.4. Love the truck, but disappointed in the MPG!

Lots of threads on this. It depends how you drive, it depends whether you're doing city or highway, it depends on whether it's winter or summer (winter gas lowers MPG), it depends ...
I find it easy to monitor when I reset the gauges at each fillup and use the bar graph to keep track which can be set to add a bar every minute, every two minutes, or every six minutes. Keeping track of the instant mpg line shows you how you are tracking to the average. Every 400 pounds of weight you carry reduces MPG by 1.
And yes, you will see improved MPG after the vehicle passes 10,000 or so, at least that's what others have said. I passed 6,000 with no noticeable change.
You will also find a marked difference between driving 60, 65, 70 or higher. Set the bar graphs, when one changes set the cruise on 60 until the next bar pops up, then 65 for that bar, then 70 for the next. You will see noticeable decreases in MPG as you drive faster.
My 5.0 gets in the 14s locally during the winter, mostly local driving some highway. Have a big trip in the future, will be interesting to see how it does.

My 40 mile commute is 20 miles running 65mph, 10 miles running 60mph, 5 miles running 45, and then 5 miles of city driving.
My average on this trip is 17.9.
Because i never run over 65, i take away 6th gear and only drive up to 5th. 2000 rpms seems to be the mpg sweet spot for me.

My truck is an XLT ecoscrew and I'm averaging about 15 MPG when driving in the city. I get 20 - 21 MPG max on the highway going 60 - 65 mph and anything more will bring the fuel economy down substantially. I have a cantilever and ladder racks on it and the truck only has 1,000 miles. Any acceleration on this car will ruin the fuel economy so I try to coast as much as possible.
