With the use of all the helpful info in this thread I was able to complete this mod. I used the "flame red" wire from ELwirepros hoping it would match the red trim on our fx4 seats however it glows more of an orange.

Just an update for those who are still interested in this. I installed mine in November 2014 and coming up on a year later, they still work perfect from day one. I really like this mod. perfect than the alternative of buying the Platinum F-150 center console and doing a swap.

A lot of compliments on this mod. Cheap and easy to do.

Your lucky. Mine has failed for the second time. They only seem to last about 8 months for me. Not sure I'm even going to mess with replacing it again. Love the mod while it works.

Just bought a new '14 Lariat - it had been on the lot for 14 months. My one regret coming to Ford from GM was lack of a good true Remote start - and I've learned that Ford has a good aftermarket - so I've researched and now have that ordered and then - it seems so crazy - but really wanted those lit cup holders.

You all have done a great job of blazing the trail. I've already have an Opt7 kit for the floors - so very nice to find this thread to give me the cup holder solution. I don't care for the cup holders changing colors to match the floor - very happy with them staying a single color to match the dash/light ring colors - so I'm going with the EL wire - Aqua color.

Question - I would really like to light up the small area at the front of the console - I've seen a couple of guys put a single LED shining into that area - but I want to consider just getting a 4 or 5 foot piece of the EL wire - go around the cup holders and then route up and see if there are any ways to light that area. Any one here tried that and I missed it? I haven't take my console apart yet - so I haven't got to inspect it closely to see if there is going to be a way. I'll try to do that tomorrow before I order the EL.

Also - my cup holders fit very tight - no gap between them and the chrome ring - you all say that once I take them apart and put the EL wire in (2.2 mm) they will give a bit and it will fit - or do I have a date with the dremel? I have also considered using the dremel -to take a bit off of each of the square corners between the two actual cups to make the corners a little less harsh.

Appreciate any feedback on the area infront of the gear shifter and if anyone has tried EL wire there.

Quick question - I know that almost every one of you that have done this mod report ordering 2 ft of wire you used regardless of type. I've got '14 and the cup holders measure 8.5 by 4, plus figure in the round cup holders themselves. Do they give good generous amounts? otherwise I don't see how 2 ft is going to be long enough. considering going with 3 to be safe.
